Arizona Vs. Florida: Early Season Clash of the Titans

When the Arizona basketball team takes on Florida this Satuday at the McKale Center it truly will be a clash of the titians.  Both are top ten teams that are looking to send a message to the rest of the country that they are for real.

For Arizona this is the biggest basketball game that they have played since they lost to Uconn  at the Elite 8 two years ago.  Florida is a team that is being picked by many to not only make it to the Final Four in Atlanta but also cut down the nets while they are there.  We are about to see how good this Florida team is and if this Arizona team is ready to make a jump to the elite status.

Some people will tell you right now that Arizona doesn’t have much of a chance in this game but that’s why I’m here to set the record straight.  Not only are the teams close to each other with their on court talent but the conferences are as well.  The Pac 12 has been dubbed one of the worst power conferences in America but the league is actually projected to have 6 teams make the NCAA tournament while the SEC only has 5 in Joe Lunardi’s early bracketology.  Both Arizona and Florida are the top teams in each league and both leagues have had a top 10 team fall out of the top 25 (UCLA and Kentucky).  All of the other schools in each league that will either make the tournament or will be on the bubble are nice teams, but do not have enough firepower to make it far in the tournament.  In that same bracketology Joe Lunardi has the Gators listed as a #1 seed while he has the Wildcats listed at # 3.  This basically means that he is picking Florida to beat Arizona.  Florida doesn’t have any top 25 teams left in it’s out of conference schedule and Arizona only has a possibility of one top 25 team.  You can see what could happen if Arizona wins the game and Florida loses.  That’s why this game is so big for not only the teams playing but also for the conferences that they play for.

Both teams are also very talented by the way.  Their are a good 5 to 6 NBA prospects in this game, so a lot of scouts will be tuned in to see how these players match up against elite talent.  This is going to be one hell of a game as one of the best defensive teams in the country (Florida) goes up against an up and coming offensive squad in Arizona.  Florida only allows 48 point per game but Arizona averages almost 80 points per contest.  Florida has one of the best 2-3 zones that teams will play against all season so Arizona had better be prepared.  Something will have to give with these 2 contrasting styles of play.

This could be one of the best games to watch all season long.  The Gators are eyeing the Final Four and know that this is a game that will showcase how good they are to America.  The Cats see this game as exactly what Coach Miller has been building towards since he landed in the desert.  The National stage is set, so who will come out on top in this clash of the titans?
