This is going to be short and to the point; Arizona must contain Warren Niles, Oral Roberts’ best player. The 6’5 guard is averaging nearly 21 points a game, while shooting 55% from the field and a tremendous 51% behind the arc.
If the Wildcats can limit Niles, then I don’t foresee much of a problem tonight. ORU does have three other players in double figures, but this is a team led by Niles who plays 35 minutes a game. After the four players who score over 10 a game, it drastically drops off meaning UA just needs to worry about the starters.
The simple theory would be to throw multiple players throughout the game on Niles and tire him out. We will see just how Coach Sean Miller goes about it once the game starts.
Facing the number four team in the nation, Oral Roberts will come in to Tucson and give it all they’ve got. Sadly for them, their offense is not top notch, only averaging 70 points per game, while shooting 46%. Even worse for them is Arizona has one of the tougher defenses in the country.
On the defensive end, Arizona has not given up more than 64 points in the last six out of seven games and tonight will be another chance to keep the streak going.
Nick Johnson has been the defensive leader averaging three steals a game, while Kaleb Tarczewski is leading the team in rebounds per game. If Zues can stay on the floor and out of foul trouble he should have no trouble dominating against a relatively small Oral Roberts squad.
The Wildcats offense is too potent (78 ppg) with three players scoring 13+ a game in Johnson, Mark Lyons, and Solomon Hill. They also have Kevin Parrom and Brandon Ashley averaging over eight a game. With that balance and hard nosed defense which can clutch up at when needed to, Oral Roberts is in for a very tough game tonight.
