Oregon Ducks Loss Opens the Door For Arizona Wildcats

The Oregon Ducks lost to the California Golden Bears 58-54 on Saturday.  This loss leaves the door wide open for the Arizona Wildcats to grab a share of the lead in the Pac 12 standings.

The Ducks have really struggled since losing starting point guard Dominic Artis to a foot injury.  In the last 2 games they have only scored 52 and 54 points, while losing both games.  To make matters worse for Oregon, back-up point guard Johnathan Loyd also went down with an injury to his thumb in the first half of the loss to Cal, although he did return to the game.   Oregon is having a lot of trouble without Artis in the lineup, but they get to play from home next week versus Colorado and Utah.  It is still unknown when Artis will return to the Ducks, but the team needs him back soon to stop the losing streak.

The loss leaves 10th ranked Oregon with a 7-2 Pac -12 record.  Both Arizona and Arizona State have a chance to tie Oregon for the lead in the Pac with wins tonight against the Washington schools.  Arizona’s game tonight against Washington State will be a big one for the Cats to even things up with Oregon in the chase for the Pac-12 regular season champion.
