The Colorado Buffaloes look for revenge tonight when they face off versus the Arizona Wildcats in PAC 12 play. Many people across the nation remember the first meeting, when Sabatino Chen’s last second three pointer was waved off by the officials, en route to a 92-83 loss to the Arizona Wildcats in early January. Tonight there will only be one thing on the Buffaloes mind. Payback!!
The Teams: Arizona comes into this contest with a #9 National ranking , #9 RPI ranking, and a 20-3 overall record. The Wildcats are led by Seniors Mark Lyons and Solomon Hill, and Sophomore Nick Johnson. Meanwhile, Colorado comes into the game unranked with an RPI ranking of 18, and a 16-7 overall record. The Buffaloes are led by 2 Sophomore guards Spencer Dinwiddie and Askia Booker, and Junior Andre Roberson.
Key Match-up: The biggest match-up in this game is going to be at the point guard position. Mark Lyons has struggled this season versus larger guards that can get a hand in his face, and it showed early on in the first meeting with the Buffaloes Spencer Dinwiddie clamping down defensively. Lyons turned it on in the second half by driving and getting to the line. He finished the game with 24 points on 6-16 shooting, but was 10-10 from the free throw line. It is key for Lyons to get off to a good start on the road, or the Cats may find a deficit that they won’t be able to erase this time. For Colorado, Dinwiddie must pace the team both offensively and defensively. He will not have the luxury of using all of his energy on defense this time around. The Buffs had career type games from Xavier Johnson and Sabatino Chen on Januray 3rd, so Dinwiddie will have to pick up the scoring this time around.
X-Factors: Short and Simple, can the duo of Kaleb Tarczewski and Angelo Chol match the numbers of Josh Scott for CU. If they do, this game will go Arizona’s way.
Prediction: I know that Colorado wants revenge, but the Cats lost their last game and found what worked in the 2nd half and OT of the last matchup vs. CU. It will still be a close one but will not have a buzzer beater this time around. Arizona 73 Colorado 65
