Welcome back to the Arizona Wildcats Sweet 17 Tournament, where we take the best teams in school history and see who would win in a bracket tournament. We’re in the middle of completing the top half of the bracket for the first round. Soon, we’ll know what the Elite 8 looks like. Last week, we looked at the ridiculously close game between the #8-seeded 1994 Arizona Wildcats and the #9-seeded 2000 Arizona Wildcats. It was close, but the 1994 Cats advanced.
The winner of that game will take on the winner of this week’s game between the Arizona’s first Final Four squad from 1988 and the winner of the play-in game, Jason Terry’s 1999 Cats.
Before we get to the matchup and the voting, let’s look at the bracket.
Now, let’s take a look at the lineups and records for this week’s game.
#1 1988 Arizona Wildcats vs. #16A 1999 Arizona Wildcats
1988 Profile: 35-3 (17-1, 1st in Pac-10, won Pac-10 tournament); NCAA Tournament: #1 seed, lost to #1 Oklahoma 86-78 in Final Four

Key Bench: Jud Buechler (SO), Kenny Lofton (JR), Joe Turner (SR), Harvey Mason (SO)
1999 Profile: 22-7 (13-5, 2nd in Pac-10); NCAA Tournament: #4 seed, lost to #13 Oklahoma 61-60 in Round of 64
Starters: Jason Terry (SR), AJ Bramlett (SR), Michael Wright (FR), Richard Jefferson (FR), Ruben Douglas (FR)
Key Bench: Eugene Edgerson (JR), Justin Wessel (SO), Traves Wilson (FR), Rick Anderson (FR)
The 1988 team is so beloved, I’m scared to see what the results of this game might be. All that the 1988 Wildcats would have to do to win this game is shut down Jason Terry. That would be no small task, mind you, even given Steve Kerr’s defense (or lack thereof), but Anthony Cook could probably hold down the fort down low.
The results of the game will come on Monday, but as always, we need your input! The fan vote goes a long way in determining who will win this game. Vote below, and come back on Monday to see who advances in the Arizona Wildcats Sweet 17 Tournament!
