Standing six-foot-five and weighing 190 pounds, point guard Emmanuel Mudiay has the skill set that college coaches desire. Coming out of Prime Prep Academy in Arlington Texas, Emmanuel Mudiay is college ready. He is a true point guard with a massive frame, and the scary part is, he will grow more. His father is six-foot-ten and his brother is six-foot-seven. He can take control of a game when needed, he possesses great poise in big games, and this will translate well on the next level.

Watching his footage, I noticed that Mudiay uses his superior size to his advantage with screens, he has perfected the art of sealing off his defender on his back when he turns the corner to attack the basket. When he is not tearing up interior defenses, he is using his smooth jump shot to terrorize his opponents on the perimeter. Mudiay also possess the ability to make his teammates better, he is an outstanding passer out of double teams, and he can create easy offense for his teammates. He will always play up to his completion, but this is often unneeded because he is the best guard on the floor most of the time. Mudiay uses his endless motor to make hustle plays throughout the game, and he will play all-out until the final buzzer sounds.

Some concerns recruiters have about Emmanuel Mudiay’s game is that he does not shoot the ball well off the dribble, he has to spot up to have an efficient jump shot. He has shown signs of a killer instinct, but it does not always come out when his coach would like it to. He also lacks the vocal power a point guard needs to assert himself as another coach on the floor.

With high school recruits, coaches and recruiters always look for the good, the bad and the ugly. In Mudiay’s case, there is good and bad, but no ugly. His game is extremely solid and all his short-comings are easily corrected with the right coaching staff. Talents such as Mudiay do not come along very often. In a recruiting class filled with talented big men, it is important to locate the player(s) that can improve a team’s backcourt.

Overall, Emmanuel Mudiay is ready to play on the next level, and with a year of solid growth in college, he will hear his name called on draft day. He is a special talent with an unlimited amount of potential. The sky is the limit if he is willing to work.

Arizona has made his final list of eight schools, Sean Miller and the Arizona Wildcats would be fortunate to land Emmanuel Mudiay. With a backcourt that will need some firepower, Mudiay is the player Arizona should target.
