Smothers becomes Arizona's 21st Commitment

Antonio Smothers, a three-star linebacker from Scottsdale Community College, committed to the Arizona Wildcats Thursday, giving them 21 commitments for the 2014 class.

Smothers is listed as the 29th-best junior college player and second-best junior college linebacker by 247sports.com. He chose the Wildcats over Kansas State, Miami (Fla.), Cincinnati and Memphis, among others.

He will likely contribute right away after the graduation of senior starters Marquis Flowers and Jake Fischer. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 230-pounds, Smothers can play any of the three linebacker positions, according to ESPN’s recruiting services.

Smothers is the first linebacker in the Wildcats’ 2014 class and the fourth junior college player. He will be teammates with Patrick Glover, who committed to the Wildcats in June, at Scottsdale Community College next season.

According to 247sports, he will enroll in January after completing the community college season. That way he will count towards the Wildcats’ 2013 scholarships.

The Wildcats’ recruiting class is now ranked No. 20 nationally and the No. 1 class in the Pac-12, according to 247sports.
