RSo. Tyler Turituri (Central Point, Ore./Crater/Portland State), So. Tyler Grammar (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge/Pima C.C.), RFr. Tellas Jones (Miami/Booker T. Washington/Fort Scott C.C.), RFr. Jarvis McCall (Tampa, Fla./Armwood), Fr. Carter Hehr (Fontana, Wis./Big Foot), Fr. Brogan Kemmerly (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic), Fr. RJ Morgan (Central Point, Ore./Crater), Fr. David Price (Long Beach, Calif./Poly)

The transition to Jeff Casteel’s 3-3-5 defense did not go as smoothly as planned, but year two should be very different.

At safety, the Arizona Wildcats return all three starters: juniors Tra’mayne Bondurant, Jared Tevis and Jourdon Grandon. Last season, the three combined for 211 tackles (13.0 for loss), five interceptions, 19 passes broken up, 24 passes defended, seven forced fumbles and one fumble recovered.

The concern at the safety position lies in the lack of depth. Vince Miles and Patrick Onwuasor were key rotation members last season, but the former left the team due to an undisclosed medical issue and the latter was kicked off the team after he was indicted on four felony charges.

The Wildcats will look to a trio of sophomores to fill those holes: Jamar Allah, Anthony Lopez and William Parks. Those three, along with Wayne Capers Jr., saw playing time as true freshmen last season, mostly on special teams. Yamen Sanders, Blake Brady and possibly David Price should also contribute at the position.

An intriguing potential contributor is Jarvis McCall, who joined the Wildcats during fall practice. McCall had originally committed to the University of South Florida, but did not enroll because he failed to qualify academically. Once he learns the new system, he could be an impact player this season.

Despite the lack of depth, there is little reason to believe that the safety position won’t be as productive as it was last season.
