5-star shooting guard Tyler Dorsey decommits from Arizona

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around Sean Miller’s first recruit of the 2015 class in 5-star combo guard Tyler Dorsey. Dorsey is currently ranked as the #2 point guard in the country and #5 recruit overall in the 2015 class with offers from UConn, Louisville and UCLA. Committing very early in the process, right at the start of Pac-12 play for the Wildcats in January, things were going strong.

The rumors started flying a few months ago when Arizona received the commitment of 5-star combo guard Justin Simon, the #7 point guard in the country. A lot of scouts claimed that Dorsey and Simon were very similar in abilities, yet still claimed that these two would combine for one of the best backcourts in the country.

Amid the rumors, Tyler Dorsey confirmed that he was committed to Sean Miller and Arizona in a tweet dating back to late May. However last night, reports came out that he was decommitting from the program, releasing a personal statement to Arizona. The personal statement can be read here.

Tyler Dorsey was invited to try out for Team USA U-18, coached by Sean Miller and Florida’s Billy Donovan. However both Dorsey and Simon were both cut from the team. We wish Tyler the best in his recruitment process and hopes that he keeps Arizona as a option going forward.
