Allonzo Trier commits to Arizona, pushes Wildcats to #1

Sean Miller and company have now landed their second 5-star commitment in three weeks with the latest being #2 shooting guard and #11 overall player, Allonzo Trier. Trier held offers from Georgetown, UCLA and Kansas. With this commitment, Arizona now holds the #1 recruiting class for 2015.

To put things into perspective, there are only three programs in the country to receive a commitment from a 5-star recruit. Duke and LSU both have one, Arizona now has three. Another way to look at it, five of the top 23 recruits in the country have committed, Arizona owns three of those commitments.

Coming in at 6-4 185 lbs out of Montrose Christian School (Rockville, MD), Trier has been dubbed as the best scorer of the 2015 recruiting class after dominating Nike Peach Jam (30.8 ppg), Nike EBYL (29.4 ppg) and Team USA’s U-18 gold medal run (12.6 ppg). His game is dynamic and well-rounded, giving him the ability to play multiple position, a must for Arizona wings.  His highlights are below.

Trier’s commitment was made possible with a decommitment from Tyler Dorsey, the #2 rated point guard in the country. Dorsey committed early in the recruiting process, but when Arizona started offering guards Isiah Briscoe and Allonzo Trier, Dorsey started to waver and later decommitted.

So in the end, everything worked out and Arizona isn’t even finished recruiting. Arizona still seems to be the lead candidate for Ivann Rab, #2 rated overall player and #1 rated power forward for 2015, as well as #2 rated center Stephen Zimmerman, rated #7 overall. #1 point guard Isaiah Briscoe is most likely out of the mix now with Trier’s commitment, however it seemed like Trier was the top guard prospect to begin with.
