First Look at Arizona Wildcats Baseball Schedule

Arizona Wildcats Baseball has released its 2016 schedule for the first year under new head coach Jay Johnson.

Although we know who Wildcats Baseball will be facing all season, we don’t know exact game dates and times due to the Pac-12 and its television partners not selecting what games they will broadcast until December.

A quick overview of the schedule shows a fun and exciting season under our new head ball coach Jay Johnson. Johnson comes from the University of Nevada and has some big shoes to fill taking over for old coach Andy Lopez, who retired following Wildcats Baseball’s 2015 season.

More from Wildcats Baseball

The Arizona Wildcats baseball team will start their season on February 19th in Texas for four games; three against University of Rice (you might remember how great that series was last year) and one versus the University of Lamar. It will be the first time the Wildcats have started their season on the road since 2008. Then the Wildcats will head west to play in the Tony Gwynn Classic in San Diego.

The long road trip will come to an end with an exhibition game against an opponent the Wildcats have never faced; the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yes, you read that right they will be playing some big league competition on March 1st in Scottsdale.

Finally on March 2nd, mark your calendars, the Wildcats baseball team will finally be on home soil at Hi Corbett Field. Wildcats will face Cal State Fullerton, who played in the 2015 College World Series. Don’t worry if you can’t make it out for opening night, the Wildcats will be home for another eight games, which includes hosting the 2016 Wildcat Invitational.

The Wildcats will open up Pac-12 play in a three-game series against the University of Washington on March 18th in Seattle, Washington. Our first taste of Pac-12 play at home will be when the Wildcats play three games against UCLA at Hi Corbett March 24-26.

The biggest games on any schedule for Wildcat fans is, of course, the game we play against that team from just north of us. The Wildcats will face Arizona State University for the first time in 2016 on April 12th in Tempe. What a better way to finish out Pac-12 play at home than to be facing our rivals for a three-game series at Hi Corbett Field May 13-15th.

There will be a lot of excitement as we get closer to the start of the season, isn’t there always excitement for all of our Wildcats sports? As a baseball fan, I can’t wait for the atmosphere and our Wildcats on the diamond on Hi Corbett field.

So let’s make sure we BEARDOWN and get ready the season will be here before we know it. Wildcats Baseball begins its first official fall practice tomorrow!
