Arizona Wildcats Basketball: 4 reasons why Jimmy Fallon should wear an Arizona hat

The Arizona Wildcats basketball team was set to play the Runnin’ Rebels last Saturday. Meanwhile, the Runnin’ Utes were taking on the Duke.

In case you missed it, the Pac-12 Utah Utes took on the Duke Blue Devils in New York City where former Arizona Wildcat Derrick Williams plays, Madison Square Garden. Instead of cheering out our Pac-12 team, the Utes, Jimmy Fallon was sitting close to the court in a gaudy Christmas Sweater cheering on Duke.

The Jumbotron had to have spotted Fallon cheering because Dick Vitale, who was announcing the game, noticed and commented on what he was seeing. Vitale warned Fallon that his Dukies may fall to the Utah Utes (see video).

Vitale wasn’t the only person who saw this famous and beloved talk show host cheering for Duke. Utah Ute’s head coach Larry Krystkowiak’s wife, Jan, saw it too. So she decided to go up to Fallon, give him a Utah Ute hat and challenged him to wear it on his show if Duke lost. He refused at first but then agreed and accepted the hat, probably thinking it would never happen, and Duke would win. Did he even know who this woman was? Well, he does now.

As Fallon’s luck would have it, the Runnin’ Utes moved their way into the No. 24 spot in the Associated Press Top 25 by beating then-seventh-ranked Duke in overtime. Immediately after this event, Ute fans started a campaign and posted the hashtag ‘#WearTheHat’ all over social media to get Fallon to fulfill his promise.

What some fans may not know is they may have to wait a couple weeks because Fallon’s late night show is on hiatus for the holidays and NBC is running reruns. Ute fans are hoping Fallon fulfils his promise in his first new episode in 2016. They won’t be seeing anything until 2016.

That gives Arizona Wildcats fans a window of opportunity. ZonaZealots is happy for the Utes because we ‘Back the Pac’, but we don’t think Fallon should put on the Utah hat. Instead, we believe Fallon should put on an Arizona Wildcats hat, and there are four reasons why:

1. Just Because – why would anyone want to wear a Ute’s hat?
2. Fallon will have to explain what a Ute is because no one every knows or can agree, is it a bird, or a Native American?
3. The Arizona Wildcats are going to be the Pac-12 Champs come March, so instead of fulfilling a bet, he should shock the world and predict who is going to win the Pac-12 Championship this season.
4. We have a better idea: Wouldn’t it would be more fun for Fallon to mimic a recruit committing to the University of Arizona by having both hats on his desk and then choosing the Arizona Hat

In addition to these four reasons, we think we need to start our own campaign. All Wildcats fans on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, should post this new meme with a new hashtag: #WearTheUAHat. Better yet, come up with a better one. You can start retweeting this tweet.
