The Pac-12 Network is in town to cover the Arizona vs. Washington game and were hungry.

It’s Gameday! The Pac-12 Network is in town to cover the Arizona vs. Washington game and needed to find a great place to eat. They got more than they bargained for, but were they victorious?

Pac-12 Network announcer Anthony Herron, a former Iowa Hawkeye and defensive lineman in the NFL, asked folks where he should eat in Tucson.

Herron took Wildcats fans advice for lunch and traveled to Lindy’s on 4th (@Lindyson4th) to attempt to eat an OMFG (Oh My F** God) burger. This is how it is described on the menu:

"OMFG $29.99Nine 1/3 lb. patties (3 lbs.) of meat with cheddar and swiss (1 LB Cheese – 12 slices), lettuce, tomato, onion & Lindy’s sauce (smoky flavor, not spicy)- GOOD LUCK! (you’ll need it)"

Now this is not the Hooligan burger, and that’s half the size:

"AZ Hooligan$20Five 1/3 lb. patties of glorious meat with cheddar and swiss, lettuce, tomato, and onions, topped with Lindy’s sauce"

Anthony Herron (#AntBits) came into the eating challenge 3-0, “I’ve never taken anything on like this,” he said. Then asked about the rules before taking his first bite.

Rules:

  1. Start whenever you are ready, clock starts at first bite, and you can wear a bib
  2. You can use two baskets
  3. Eat the whole thing in 20 minutes it’s free (that’s $29.99), 30 minutes and you win your “Claim to Fame” and get your face on Facebook
  4. While you are attempting the feat, the owner will make fun of you for 20 minutes
  5. Devour it any way you can
  6. No Chip-Munking or everything that’s in your mouth has to go down
  7. Keep all the food on the table

Herron gave his own play-by-play in true broadcaster fashion all the way through the eating contest. He decided to eat each patty first, interspersed with lettuce and water.

Beer would be a nice add, but beer takes up room in your stomach. His partner in crime, Pac-12 announcer Roxy Bernstein, would not partake but read comments on Facebook alive with advice during the ordeal.

During the process, Herron asked questions about the cheese and other things. Another strategy was to stand up and shake his body to get the food to go down faster. It seemed like the bigger challenge was that the food was hot to the touch.

“I have a tendency to eat at a Kyle Whittingham Utah tempo, but I really need to eat at a Rich Rodriguez Arizona tempo,” said Herron as he was getting suggestions like to fold the patties like taco’s to eat them. That didn’t work for him.

Wildcats fans taunted Herron as he shoved down the beef, “Power through the SEC is laughing at us,” and, “Take quicker smaller bites,” and, “Don’t talk, just eat!” Then started chanting, “Eat that meat!”

As Herron ate the patties, they seemed to multiply; we can only imagine how he felt at this point, with three patties to go. Here is the Pac-12 Conference’s Facebook Live video (note audio starts after at around 1:00):
