Arizona Football commit Rhett Rodriguez cannot wait to attend the University of Arizona and play for his father, Head Coach Rich Rodriguez.

Rich Rodriguez’s season has been a challenge, to say the least. But one thing’s for sure, and he is darn proud of his son and Arizona commit quarterback Rhett Rodriguez. Now that we have met this impressive young man, we can see why; Rich and Rita Rod have done a fantastic job raising their kids Raquel (pictured above) and Rhett.

There’s nothing like Friday Night Lights at Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson. Add to that a beautiful sunset, saguaro cacti scattered around the outside of the football field, rhinestone embellished school logo shirts and the stands full of students, family, and fans.

Just when the warm night breeze passes by, you think it can’t get any better than this. That’s when the University of Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez and assistant coach Jim Michalczik walk onto the sidelines to watch their sons play football. There’s nothing like it.

Something I always dreamed of was to have a son who played football so I could cheer for him from the stands. I was blessed with two beautiful daughters and got that chance only once when the eldest played powder puff football in high school. I was giddy for one night, and she was really a great blocker, and I was beaming with pride. I still have her jersey. I couldn’t bear to part with my kid’s football jersey with my last name on the back.

I lived that experience for only one night, Rich Rod gets to watch Rhett Rod every Friday night he is in town, and he stays with the team as his son marches the team down the field.

Rodriguez and Michalczik’s sons are the best of friends, and they are in a unique position in a city where the biggest game in town is the college football. A town in which mentioning their father’s names are a common occurrence, and not always in the best of light. When they need someone to talk to who understands their position in society and the feelings that come with it, they have each other.

We were fortunate to meet this outstanding and accomplished young man and find out more about his relationships with his friends and family and his role in his mom’s dip along with confirming the families nicknames. Here’s the interview along with highlights from Rhett’s last game of the regular season.

Rhett Rodriguez is currently in playoff season after helping his team earn a 9-2 record in the state of Arizona. He led his team No. 6 ranked team to a victory in round one beating Cactus Shadows High School 35-31. Next on the schedule is No. 3 ranked Sunrise Mountain High School. The prize is the AIA State Football Championships in the 4A Conference. If Rhett’s team can pull out just three more games, they are State Champs in their conference.

We thank Rhett for his time and wish him luck in the playoffs. We also can’t wait to see what he brings to Arizona’s football team next season. His dad will surely be excited and invigorated to have his son by his side finally after all the years of preparations and dreams. BEARDOWN RODRIGUEZ FAM!
