It’s been long overdue, but finally Arizona Football walk-on center Josh McCauley gets his well earned and deserved football scholarship.

It’s been an interesting road for Arizona Football center, Josh McCauley. Formerly a multi-sport star and letter winner at Red Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona, McCauley came to Tucson in 2016.

The Arizona native walked-on with the Arizona Football team, officially earning a spot on the team in 2016 and redshirted in his freshman season. In 2017, McCauley then appeared in three games for the Wildcats, all serving in a back-up capacity, playing against Northern Arizona, UTEP and Oregon State.

Hoping to have an even bigger impact in 2018, that’s when the unthinkable would happen. The Wildcats would suffer a couple huge injuries, leaving a few holes along the offensive line, and as a result, McCauley would eventually have to step-up and play center for the Cats.

McCauley when then appear in all, 12 games for Arizona, performing admirably. McCauley would even quickly make a name for himself, known as one of the anchors in that group.

However, it was only a matter of time for him to get a scholarship right? Well, it didn’t quite happen as quickly as many of us had anticipated.

The redshirt junior entered the Spring practices still without an offer, again competing for a spot along the Arizona offensive line.

Then finally, the news we all had hoped for! On the day of the annual Spring scrimmage, McCauley got what he hoped for, a college scholarship!

While conducting a team meeting just before that start of the Spring scrimmage, head coach Kevin Sumlin called out McCauley for his tremendous play, officially awarding him a football scholarship!

It’s about time! McCauley is easily one of Arizona’s better offensive lineman and it’s great to see that his hard work has finally paid off!

McCauley should once again have a big impact along the Arizona offensive line, and hopefully we can get more of this attitude from him this year…
