Arizona Basketball hasn’t started quite yet, but sophomore guard Devonaire Doutrive is sending a message early with back-to-back gold practice jersey honors.

Hardest worker in practice. That’s what sophomore guard Devonaire Doutrive has been up to the first two weeks of practice. For his efforts, he was rewarded with the gold Arizona Basketball practice jersey in back-to-back weeks! Those who’d watched him go through what he went through last season, what he is doing right now is tremendous to see.

Limited minutes and playing time described the freshman season for Doutrive. A combination of many factors drove that result, but in the end, he has put in the time and results are starting to show.  During the Red and Blue game Doutrive showed he has the confidence that fans didn’t truly get to see last season. Also, the time he has spent in the weight room and conditioning is apparent as well.

Being given the honor of the hardest worker in practice in back to back weeks says a lot. Just look at who he is competing in practice against. It’s certainly no cakewalk. Plus, we all know that in a Sean Miller practice players are put to work.

Practice is a time in which players not only are proving to their teammates they belong, but also to the coaching staff. This is especially important this season because there are many different combinations and rotations that Miller could possibly being using. How players show up in practice does play a role in how they are used throughout the season.

It’s likely that Doutrive won’t be starting, but you never know. If he doesn’t get the start, he will probably be a main contributor off the bench and be the Wildcats sixth man! There has man been some great players that have come off the bench in Arizona Basketball, Doutrive looking to add his name to that list.

This past week, Zeke Nnaji was given the gold practice jersey. Great to see a freshman take practice serious before the start of the season on November 1st against Chico State. Won’t be the first time he wears that jersey, I guarantee that. He is one of many hard-working players on this team, looking to get Arizona back on top!

Just imagine, Doutrive was that close from leaving Arizona. Glad he decided to stay. He is one the most underrated guards in the conference and this season he is ready to put on a show! At Zona Zealots, we would like to congratulate Doutrive on earning back-to-back gold practice jerseys. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
