The Arizona Wildcats track and field teams traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete in the Lobo Collegiate Open this past weekend. Both teams combined were able to get three overall first place finishes and two top collegiate finishes.
For the men, the Wildcats were able to win the triple jump, 800-meter run, and the shot put. Jovon Cunningham, who jumped 15.55-meters (51’0.25″), now has the 20th best mark in the nation, in triple jump, and Collins Kibet, who ran 1:49.67, has 18th best time in the 800-meter run. Sophomore thrower Aaron Castle is 41st in the nation with his toss of 18.02-meters (59’1.5″) last week in the opening meet of the season. These are the only three men with top 50 marks early in the season.
The women were not able to get any outright winners, but had two individuals finish as the top collegiate athlete, losing only to professionals. Alyssa Thompson was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with her jump of 5.88-meters (19’3.5″). Arizona also had the top collegiate finisher in the high jump with a 1.74-meter (5’8.3″). The Wildcat women currently have top-50 marks in four events and will look to add that total next weekend.
