Arizona Wildcats Basketball: Round 2, No Problem! Wildcats win 93-72

Arizona Wildcats Basketball: In Round 2, Arizona walked and dunked all over Texas Southern University Thursday Morning in Portland.

The star of this game is No. 23 Rondae Hollis-Jefferson who scored a double-double with 23 points (like the number on his back) and 10 rebounds.  In addition, he made 90% of his free-throws (he was 9-10.)  This was so impressive that the station broadcasting it threw up a new stat, “Shimmies”, as you can see here in this tweet:

On top of Rondae’s performance, the starting five all scored in double digits…

Stanley Johnson was the next highest scorer with 22 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists. Stanley made four out of five three pointers; that’s 80% folks!  It seemed Stanley was having his way the whole game with this team.  Reggie Miller chimed in with a LeBron reference, “You may be seeing the reincarnation of LeBron James.”

Then Brandon Ashley. Brandon score 14 points, and made four rebounds and made four out of five of his free throws.  Brandon keeps delivering for the Wildcats.

Third on the list is Kaleb Tarczewski. Kaleb at some point was dribbling like a guard! Zues scored 13 points, made three rebounds and he 87.5% of his free throws making seven out of eight!

Last of the double digit starters is T.J. McConnell.  T.J. scored 12 points, made four rebounds, four assists shooting 62.5% of his field goals.  On one play, he saved the ball and mid-air, somehow got it in a Wildcats hands, I believe it was Rondae, who took the ball coast-to-coast for a made lay-up, such exciting acrobatics.

As a team, they scored 91 points, 35 rebounds, stole the ball eight times, shot 60.4% of their field goals, and 88% of their free-throws.  I am sure that Coach Sean Miller spend the next half hour after the game pointing out where they could have stepped up the defense and “respected the game.”  I love how he is never satisfied, always pushing for perfection, as he should be!

Next Up for Texas Southern? Going Home:  The Texas Southern Coach  Mike Davis was quoted as saying, ‘We hadn’t seen a body like Stanley Johnson’s walk out on the floor this season.”

Next Up for Arizona? They Play The Ohio State Buckeyes: In an Upset game, the No. 10 Ohio State Buckeyes who advance advance behind a 28 point effort from D’Angelo Russell. Ohio State beats No. 7 VCU 75-72 in the first OT game of the tourney.
