This weekend the Cats took on the No. 18 ranked Oregon Ducks in a three game series.  While the basketball team was preparing and playing in the Elite Eight, the baseball team was continuing their winning streak.

The Wildcats won the Friday game 7-2. the Saturday game 9-5 and on Sunday, finished off the Ducks with a resounding 13-4 win to sweep the them in the series. In all, the Wildcats scored 29 total runs over the three games.  Nine different players scored the 13 runs with seven runs scored in the second inning, putting Arizona up 8-0. Note that of the nine players touching home plate, eight of them recorded at least one RBI (run batted in.) Impressive!

There were about 2,300 fans in the stands Sunday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field to witness this last game and resulting “sweep” of the Oregon Ducks.

Included in the crowd of fans was one of our valiant basketball players, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who stole some of the cheers away from Bobby Dalbec as he was about to swing away. It was nice for the fans on Twitter and in the stands to be able to share their adoration with a big member of the starting five, and it wasn’t lost on the Pac-12 Network (to watch and listen to the video, click Here

Assistant coach Josh Garcia made sure Tucson animal lovers were not upset by this first inning home run by second baseman Scott Kingery which went over the wall (possibly into the zoo.) Scott also hit a triple in the game, but this was his team leading sixth season home run and eight of his college career. :

Last season Arizona earned 22 wins in total with a record of 22-33 (9-21 in the Pac-12). Arizona is now 22-6 on the season (7-2 Pac-12), with 27 games left to play, most of which is against other ranked Pac-12 teams. The play of the game came from Bobby Dalbec as he hits a home run, brings in a run, the ball stuck itself into the home run area in the padding just to make sure it was counted:

After this 22nd win for the Wildcats, lets look at only some interesting facts via ArizonaWildcats.com:

  • Arizona has swept consecutive Pac-12 Conference series for the first time since 2013
