Gilbert Arenas has hung up his NBA shoes, but he will not be forgotten as one of the Arizona Basketball players who helped take the Wildcats to the final four.

Gilbert Arenas played point guard in the NBA for twelve seasons and earned two nicknames; Agent Zero and Hibachi (he used to say “hibachi” when his jump shot was in midflight).  Arenas entered the 2001 NBA Draft and was selected No. 31 (2nd round) by the Golden State Warriors. After two seasons, he became a free agent and signed with the Washington Wizards where he spent the next seven seasons.

In the 2006/2007 season, Arenas ranked No.1 in 3-pointers made (205), and minutes played (3,304). He scored a total of 11,396 points including 1,081 3-pointers. Also, he made 2,164 rebounds, 2,894 assists, 887 steals and 134 blocks. During his NBA career, he was named Player of the Week seven times and was earned a spot in the All-Start game three years in a row (2005-2007).

In late 2010, Arenas was traded to the Orlando Magic, who waived him the next year when he then signed for his last season in 2012 with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Trade to the Magic was most probably because  Arenas was suspended for most of the 2009–10 season due to being accused of handgun violations (incident on December 24, 2009) and his actions after the incident.

After the NBA, Gilbert played a year for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association.

Arenas earned more than $140 million during his NBA career. He recently filed a 21-page Complaint in the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles against Boulevard Management Inc. and business manager Lester Knispel. According to Forbes, he alleged recklessness and negligence by the defendants as the reason he lost millions and is seeking more than $40 million in damages. He put his Encino home on the market just this week for $3.495 million.

Arenas has been busy in court. Just last month he filed a defamation lawsuit against his former fiance’ Laura Govan (Basketball Wives LA) claiming she was behind the publishing by several websites, of false accusations that he infected her with sexually transmitted diseases. Let’s hope he wins his cases, it seems to be a rough road for this Wildcat lately.

As far as his college career, Arenas played for Arizona for only two years and in those two years, he was a major contributor:

As a sophomore, Arenas along with his teammate Richard Jefferson helped Arizona make it to the NCAA Final Four where they lost in the final game.

As the Lakers took on Gilbert’s first NBA team, the Golden State Warriors, former teammate Nick Young decided to wear some special Adidas sneakers.
