Former Arizona Wildcats Place Kicker Steve McLaughlin played in the Desert Swarm era.

A native of Tucson, Arizona, Steve McLaughlin is a former University of Arizona and NFL place kicker. McLaughlin attended Arizona from 1990 to 1994 during the “Desert Swarm” era with Tedy Bruschi. In 1994, as a senior, he won the Lou Groza Award, which is awarded to the outstanding college placekicker in America as well as earning a spot on the All-Pac-10 first team and the consensus first-team All-American.

In 2010, McLaughlin’s University of Arizona football jersey was retired at the half-time ceremony of the USC game in Tucson.

Selected in the third round (82nd pick overall) by the St. Louis Rams, McLaughlin had a pretty good year making all 17 point after kicks. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 1996 and then with the Baltimore Ravens in 1997.  In 1998, he moved to the AFL and played for eight seasons for five different teams.

While in college, McLaughlin formed a band named “Pet The Fish” which actually opened for Dave Mathews Band and Weezer. While playing professional football, he put his music career on hold. After retiring, he put out a solo album titled “No More Record Stores” in 2010.
