Which city has been ranked as the No. 2 Rudest City in the U.S., according to Travel and Leisure’s List of America’s Rudest Cities?

Travel and Leisure run’s a survey every year to determine which cities are the most friendly or the rudest to visitors.

San Antonio, Texas, was ranked as America’s Friendliest City In the survey. But which cities were cited as the rudest? Well, if you were an Arizona Wildcats fan, you would say Phoenix! The funny thing is, you would be partly correct, Phoenix, home of the Arizona State University Sun Devils (or closest big city to Tempe), is the second rudest city in the USA.

This is according to a survey taken by Travel and Leisure, who asked their readers to vote and rank big cities (cities with populations over 100,000) for their culture and offerings such as museums and restaurants.  Also, readers voted on the cities based on the quality of life attributes such as city walkability, feeling of safety, and finally, friendliness or the degree the locals are cordial towards visitors.

Phoenix has moved up ten spots since 2014, here is the assessment on Phoenix by the site:

"The capital of the Grand Canyon State keeps creeping up the list, moving from No. 12 in 2014 to No. 8 in 2015, and now No. 2. Phoenix doesn’t seem to be getting more hospitable toward visitors (last year, we surmised they were just weary of all the people who winter in their hometown), but they shouldn’t be surprised by the influx. Phoenix received high scores for many “quality of life” factors including good drivers (No. 1) and affordability (No. 2).More from Zona ZealotsArizona Football begins Conference play against StanfordArizona Football starts slow but runs away from UTEPHow Wildcats Fans Can Claim $200 INSTANT Bonus at BetMGM Betting $10 Right NowCostly Mistakes doom Arizona Football in loss to Mississippi StateArizona Basketball likely to schedule Florida Atlantic for 2023"

This is not Phoenix’s first rodeo; it ranked  No. 12 in 2014, No. 8 in 2015 and now No. 2 in 2016. This big city, closest to Tempe, isn’t the only Arizona city ranked high on the list. Nearby Scottsdale is ranked No. 15.

Here are the Top 15 voted Rudest Cities:

  1. Miami
  2. Phoenix
  3. New York
  4. Los Angles
  5. Philadelphia
  6. Salt Lake City
  7. Boston
  8. Dallas
  9. Colorado Springs
  10. Ann Arbor
  11. Detroit
  12. Las Vegas

Note: The survey ran from 10/8/2015 to 04/15/2016, was open to everyone, and ran alongside a sweepstakes promotion.

We can chide other Pac-12 schools such as USC and UCLA as well because Los Angeles isn’t too far behind Phoenix coming in at No. 4. And we know this wasn’t exactly sports related, but we just couldn’t resist bringing Arizona Wildcats this subjective but expected news [tongue in cheek]. BearDown Tucsonians, you did NOT make the list!
