Arizona Baseball’s run to the No. 2 ranked team in the country silenced many Arizona State Sun Devil tweeters at the time. Now that college football is almost here, the chatter is resuming and we decided to see what all the fuss was about.
On Thursday evening, the hashtag #SunDevilSeasonSpoilers climbed to the top spot on Twitter’s ‘Trending’ list in Tempe. While it sounds like a disappointing hashtag for ASU fans, the tweets were all over the place, some pro-Arizona State, others not so much.
A few tweets caught our attention. This year, the Territorial Cup will be played at Arizona Stadium in Tucson. Each team’s fans have their respective responses if their team loses. If ASU loses to Arizona, Wildcat fans know they will hear ‘But you’ve never been to the Rose Bowl’ (as though we don’t know that.) If Arizona loses to ASU, Wildcats fans in the stadium will be mumbling ‘At least it’s basketball season.’
This year, it’s possible ASU may steal the basketball line but with a twist:
We aren’t sure if this fan has been to a game at Sun Devil Stadium lately:
Getting into a football stadium is almost like getting on a plane; weapons aren’t allowed. Who really fears the fork, anyway? Leave them in the silverware drawer.
Back at you @jspoppe59, we know the feeling:
Maybe we can give an award for which game analyst confuses the Wildcat mascot with the Sun Devil most often. If the sports talking heads would actually stay awake past 10 PM Eastern time, that is.
The following tweet and response kills two birds with one stone. First, although the Pac-12 has announced there will be fewer late starting games, it doesn’t appear that will be the case for the Arizona Wildcats. It won’t matter in both Tucson and Tempe as @BDenny29 calls out:
Tweeter @centojack81 responded by hitting the nail on the head. Between ASU’s and the Arizona Diamondbacks new uniforms this past season, many are scratching their heads. Exactly what are ASU’s school colors and do some of the combinations have to look like the players are attending a funeral? Memo to Arizona Athletic Director Greg Byrne: Never sign us up for gray uniforms.
Sun Devils have a reputation of being bandwagon fans:
It’s understood. If a maroon and gold Sparky is your guy, you’ll always be searching for more.
Hey, @donny_nieder, ZonaZealots beat you to this:
Arizona is usually the under the radar team, quit copying!
By far, the best #SunDevilSeasonSpoiler tweet is this colorful opinion:
ZonaZealots could not sit idly by, we had to get our jab in:

@ProducerWes proves ASU is not the premier school in the Southwest. Maybe a refresher course in elementary English will come in handy.
#BearDown Wildcat fans, see you on Twitter from Phoenix on September 3rd when we share #BYUSeasonSpoilers!
