Thanksgiving is finally here, and as you make those last minute shopping trips in preparation of a hopefully glorious feast, Zona Zealots gives its opinions on what to be thankful for.

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, whatever it is that may be on your plate, the staff at Zona Zealots wanted to give you a few ideas of things to be thankful for this Holiday season as you sit around the family table.

The holidays are nearly upon us, and that gives us a great opportunity to enjoy our families (some more than others), and reflect on the many blessings we have just before we descend upon department stores, shoving each other out-of-the-way in search for the best deals.

With that said, we bring you this Thanksgiving edition of ‘What to be Thankful for’ from our staff here at Zona Zealots!

We have a great recruiting class for 2017!

Despite the rough football season, the staff is committed to turning this thing around, and are out to prove that 2016 was a fluke. Some of the problems with the roster currently can and will be fixed, with time and a bit of better luck.

The question, moving forward will be how quickly Arizona can turn this thing around, and is everyone going to be patient enough in the process?

Perhaps the bright side is that fact the incoming recruiting class appears to be a good one, and could potentially have an immediate impact moving forward.

As it stands, the Wildcats have the 16th ranked class according to Scout, and features notable recruits like; Greg Johnson, Nathan Tilford, Braxton Burmeister, among many others!

Albeit the youthfulness and inexperience, the talent appears to be there, and given the current depth issues, this class addresses some needs, and they will have a great opportunity to get early playing time.

The future looks bright for Arizona football, so long as we have the patience, and the players have the heart and work ethic to improve. Rich Rodriguez has already taken steps into improving the overall product, and the addition of Marcel Yates and Donte Williams was a step in the right direction!

So with that said, our 2017 recruiting class is something to be thankful for this holiday. Plus, it is definitely the silver lining after the tough season!

It’s Basketball Season!

It has been a long, and rough football season. The heartache of the 2016 season will finally be over after Friday’s match-up with in-state rival ASU, and that means 100 percent of the focus can now be on basketball from a fans’ perspective!

From early indications, the team does look good, despite being young, and could become even better if sophomore Allonzo Trier becomes cleared to play at any point this season.

Since the Lute Olson days, Arizona has widely been considered to be a ‘Basketball School.’ We have been blessed with occasional good, but not great football seasons, and have certainly had plenty of success in our other athletic programs as well, but generally speaking when you think Arizona Wildcats you think basketball!

Expectations are high once again, and rightfully so after the Wildcats have a competitive team, with tons of young talent. The heartbreak of a tough football season can always be somewhat forgotten with a great basketball season, and 2016-17 has the potential to be a special one.

So as you’re sitting around the table with your family this holiday season, be grateful for Arizona Basketball!

The Arizona Baseball Team’s Dugout!

As we are slowly approaching the 2017 Baseball season, that means the dugout shenanigans may soon be back as well!

Last season was a remarkable run for the Wildcats, as Arizona came within a game of winning the College World Series for the fifth time in school history. Jay Johnson was in just his first year, after having come from the University of Nevada, and taking over a talented, but not a very deep roster.

In 2017, the Wildcats are of course hoping to build on that success, as well as hoping to have another memorable run like in 2016, dugout entertainment and all!

Arizona has high hopes for the return of a few solid pieces from last year, as well as the addition of some notable newcomers like; Nick Quintana, Cameron Cannon, Matt Frazier, along with others.

So as you’re enjoying the holiday dinner with your family, we can at least be thankful that Arizona may have one of the best and most entertaining dugouts in all of college baseball!

Always be thankful you are not a Scum Devil Fan!

Bias aside, think about it, things could be a lot worse if you were a Scum Devil fan. The continual hype of ‘speaking victory’ and the belief you are a national power in football, could become pretty unbearable as a fan sitting through another seven-win season.

“One of the things, very frankly, that we’re trying to do better around here is to talk less and deliver more.”

Granted the Wildcats are struggling in football this year, but rarely do you hear the over-sell of ‘College Football’ and ‘Playoffs’ from our head coach here in Tucson. Over the summer, ASU Athletic Director Ray Anderson has some interesting comments about his head coach “One of the things, very frankly, that we’re trying to do better around here is to talk less and deliver more.”

Ouch!

That certainly doesn’t mean we don’t want to believe such things could happen, but it’s better, to be honest, and up front, than lied to and let down?

Perhaps even worse is the rather poor reputation of the school which is generally the butt of every joke of the academically inferior, as well the student body.

Lastly, that we’re all Arizona Fans!

Can’t get any better than waking up every day knowing you are an Arizona Fan! We have a great and passionate fan base that loves their Wildcats!

Arizona has large support from its alumni, and also add the fact Arizona is well represented across the U.S. and around the world, and it makes sense why the large support.

Everything is very much centered around our athletics within our community, plus, it helps when you have a well respected, and well-performing Athletic Department.

So finally, as you sit around the dinner table, you can be thankful for many things this holiday season, one of those can always be being an Arizona Wildcat!
