Arizona Beach Volleyball: Wildcats Dig Deep for Wins Against the Cardinal and Bears
By David Rosen
Arizona Wildcats Beach Volleyball finished the regular season in style, with wins over the Cardinal and Bears on Senior Weekend.
On a perfect Friday night in Tucson, AZ, the Arizona Wildcat Beach Volleyball team delivered a statement to the Pac 12 – this is our house! The Wildcats split the opening flight against the Cardinal and then in the second flight of games, the Wildcats won the deciding match in 3 sets – what a performance!
In the first flight of matches, the Wildcats and Cardinal split each. The No. 4 doubles teams of Mia Mason and Brooke Burling lost their match 21-15, 21-18, but persisted to the very last point. The No. 5 doubles team of Natalie Anselmo and Halli Amaro won their match 21-15 and 21-18 with some impressive digs, serves and offensive put aways like this one:
In the second flight, the Wildcats won two of three to win overall 3-2. No. 1 doubles team of McKenna and Madison Witt, purely dominated their opponent in the first set winning 21-11. During the second set, the Cardinal gave it their all, but it was not enough in a losing effort 21-18. The Cardinal did however win the No. 3 doubles match up.

All tied up at 2-2, it came down to the No. 2 team of Olivia Hallaran and Olivia Macdonald – the Olivia duos. What a showdown between the two teams! Both the Wildcats and Cardinal dug deep all over the court, but in the end the Olivias won in three sets 18-21, 21-19, 21-19.
The Wildcats continued their dominating ways on the sand Saturday afternoon, with a 5-0 win over the California Bears – nothing like a sweep! Before the match started, the three seniors, Amaro and the Witt sisters, were honored:
No. 5 doubles for the Wildcats, Anselmo and Amaro got on the board first with 21-17 and 21-15 wins in their match. The Witt sisters followed with a 21-12 and 21-10 win – that’s dominance! Next, the No. 2 doubles of Hallaran and Macdonald put on a offensive show in the first set and continued doing the same in the 2nd set for 21-15 and 21-9 victories.
The No. 3 doubles of Hailey Devlin and Jessica Manley, held their ground with 21-15 and 21-17 wins. Finally, the No. 4 doubles of Mason and Burling went the distance in the first set and won their match with finals of 28-26 and 21-16.
