Duke transfer Chase Jeter arrives in Tucson to start his first year as a Wildcat in the Arizona Basketball organization.
Although he won’t see minutes this season, Chase Jeter, the Duke transfer, and former Arizona Basketball prospect will join an elite group of transfer students to play at Arizona. Kadeem Allen, TJ McConnell, Ryan Anderson, and this year Dylan Smith were all transfers that spent a year practicing hard under coach Sean Miller with intense practice competition.
Sean Miller has done an outstanding job filling his roster with great players that have made their way to Tucson via transferring from other programs. TJ and Kadeem were two of the most popular players to play in Tucson in the Sean Miller era. Chase Jeter looks to join that group, but we won’t see him until next year. He is the most high-profile transfer to make it to Tucson.

Arizona being picked by many to be ranked No. 1 next season, will have such spirited, competitive practices that Chase will transition nicely heading into the following season. Chase will be going up against some of the best players in the country every day during practice next season. By the time his name is called next season, he will be ready. The former Wildcat target who chose Duke out of high school is coming back out West to be closer to home. Things may not have gone as planned in North Carolina, so he’s back where he belongs, in Tucson playing for Sean Miller.
“I’m heading to Tucson… #BearDown” Chase Jeter Via Twitter
Jeter was a much sought after player in the 2015 recruiting class, which included Allonzo Trier, and ahead of Caleb Swanigan, Luke Kennard, and Tyler Dorsey. Jeter attended power house Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas and was a top 20 recruit.
Jeter had the opportunity to learn and practice for one of the best coaches in college basketball in Coach K. This puts Arizona in a great position, especially since Jeter understands Coach K’s strategy. Now he can add to that the knowledge of Arizona’s system and get to know his teammates while participating in Sean Miller’s very intense practices. This type of thing proved to be extremely beneficial for Tucson legend TJ McConnell, Duquesne transfer, as well as Anderson coming from Boston College and Allen, JUCO player of the year, and most recently to get drafted.
Jeter gives Miller a 6-foot-10 experienced athletic big man that can still develop into the player many thought he’d become at Duke. Playing in Miller’s system for a year and practicing each day against Deandre Ayton, Dusan Ristic, Allonzo Trier, and Rawle Alkins and the rest of this special team will help Jeter get comfortable in a new system. When his name is called, he will be up to speed already. A Sean Miller led practice is insanely competitive and is very similar to big game atmosphere type of game.

Chase Jeter is the most well-known player to transfer to Arizona being a top player out west in high school and coming from a famed basketball school such as Duke. I think Jeter didn’t succeed at Duke primarily because of the talent they brought in and partly because he didn’t feel comfortable playing that far from home. Given the right surroundings and teammates, Chase Jeter can indeed make a name for himself. Jeter, like McConnell and Allen, has two years of eligibility and that’s plenty of time to make a name for yourself playing Arizona basketball.
