Former Arizona Football player Jake Fischer has found a new passion and is using what he learned on the football field to build a new team and career.

The last time former Arizona Football player Jake Fischer played football was in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl. The team beat the crap out of Boston College, 42-19. What a way to go out, huh? Jake played for both Mike Stoops and Rich Rodriguez, but it was Coach Rod who he connected most (According to Brad Allis).

Jake, a linebacker on defense, started playing football in the Pac-10 and ended his career in the Pac-12. And although he battled through injuries, he recorded a ton of tackles.

It’s been a few years since Fischer stepped on the field as a football player, but he is now leading a team in the business world as an Investment Advisor Representative. Fischer joined Primerica in 2014 a month after his career at the U of A ended. He earned both his securities and life insurance licenses to launch his new career in Financial Services.

Fischer sets up a complimentary financial game plan for his customers that shows potential clients how to properly protect their income, become debt free and financially independent. He also offers an option for part-time work or a career change. This is why he loves his job because he “Controls my Destiny!”

Being self-employed gives Jake flexibility in life, he is his own boss, and can motivate his team. He also shows others how to be self-employed by hiring people to join his team at Primerica which includes getting them training and licensed.

Fischer’s girlfriend is Miss Arizona, Tommy Lynn Calhoun. If you remember correctly, Ms. Calhoun was tackled by Arizona quarterback, Brandon Dawkins. But she popped right back up, and she felt she landed the right way because of her education, she was a kinesiology major.

Fischer is such a positive person, a go-getter, passionate, and inspiring, So, we caught up with the former Wildcat to see how he was doing and to get his perspective on playing for the U of A and Coach Rod. We also wanted to know what he would recommend to the current team for this upcoming season.

ZZ: What game will you always remember from your days as a Wildcat and why?

JF: The game I will forever remember as a Wildcat was my senior day vs. a top 5 Oregon team. We were coming off of a tough loss against Washington State where we clearly outplayed them, and this was my last home game as a Wildcat. We put a beating on them!

ZZ: You have always been a very proud and positive Wildcat, what message do you have for fans of this year’s team?

JF: My message about this year’s Wildcats is to give them some time. Coach Rod and the staff are great coaches, but they have a lot of newcomers who are going to be getting used to a system while also getting their first collegiate game experience. I do believe we will make a bowl game, but we may have to win ugly the first few games! When you rely on newcomers, there are some mistakes, but this staff is dedicated and only recruit kids that LOVE football.

ZZ: What did you learn the most about teamwork that you carry into your daily life since college?

JF: I have learned that you can do absolutely nothing special in life by yourself. You always need a great team to do something special. Everybody that folks look up to haven’t gotten to where they are alone. Michael Jordan had a great team; Tom Brady has a great team, etc. In my new profession where I train Investment Advisor Representatives, I have to build people up. I help them to create a team so that they can eventually open up their own offices!

ZZ: What are you doing now as a career, and what do you enjoy about it?

JF: My current career as I had previously mentioned is in financial services. I’m a licensed Investment Advisor Representative that constructs game plans to help families earn more income, become properly protected, debt free, and financially independent. Middle-class families are often overlooked in our industry, and that is our main focus, teaching financial concepts that are often overlooked. I enjoy helping people to achieve their goals and dreams!

ZZ: What advice would you give Freshman Jake now that you look back?

JF: The advice I would give my young hard-headed self would be to stay patient and continue to work hard. When you are young going through conditioning and learning a new system while also going to college, you can become frustrated. There are times I look back and wonder why I was frustrated at certain things.

ZZ: What do you miss most about Arizona Football?

JF: Being around a close-knit group of guys you enjoy your time. You realize you are in this thing together. You are constantly around these guys so you form a special bond that only teammates can relate to. That is what I miss the most, are the locker room and game days.
