Arizona Basketball: Rawle Alkins will come back stronger post surgery

TUCSON, AZ - NOVEMBER 15: Rawle Alkins
TUCSON, AZ - NOVEMBER 15: Rawle Alkins

Rawle Alkins is not a weak individual, he is persistent and can focus on his goals and achieve them. He will now have to rise to the occasion and recuperate as soon as possible, and he will.

Our beloved guard Rawle Alkins broke a bone in his foot and needed surgery. Wildcats fans heard the news last week.

If you know anything about King Rawle Alkins, you know he is as tough as nails and can do anything he sets his mind too, and that will be to heal as fast as possible.

Alkins is always so positive and upbeat, you would think that this setback would cause him to withdraw and be bummed out. But no. He has a ray of sunshine. It has to be very hard for Alkins to be sitting around and healing when he is used to being on the go, working out, lifting weights, and practice with the team just started. But Alkins has posted uplifting messages on social media.

Alkins has bounced back twice before. Once last season in the tournament when he hurt his finger (fracture and dislocation) against St. Mary’s. Alkins went to the locker room to get x-rays, and it didn’t look good for his return. Then like a knight in shining armor riding back out onto the court on a miracle unicorn, Alkins came running back in the game to help his team to another Sweet 16!

Justin Spears of the Daily Wildcat reported what Alkins assessment was, “It wasn’t that bad, and the doctor popped it back in, and I did an x-ray to see if it was broken and luckily it was just a minor fracture so I should be good.”

Rawle had never been seriously injured before. A warrior, a savage, this is how Alkins describes himself. And that’s exactly how he responded.

The next injury Alkins suffered was a shoulder bruise while the team was playing in Spain. He still could warm up, and we saw him shooting, the coaches probably wanted to play it safe. As soon as he could, though, he was back at it posting dunks and dribbling drills on social media.

So now we come to last week Wildcats fans thought their week couldn’t get any worse, and then they started getting reports that one of their favorite players may have broken his foot. I personally put my face in my hands and sat there for a while. Then sent well wishes to King Rawle, because I know this savage warrior Wildcat will bounce back as fast as he possibly can.

You know he is disappointed he can’t play in the Red and Blue game, you know he’s been working on dunks to please the fans. But he will in time, he will bounce back, and we will be enjoying him playing hopefully by mid-December (8-12 weeks recovery reported.)

Worst case, it seems, Alkins will be back by the UCONN Game so that it could be better.

Brandon Randolph will probably get Alkins minutes, and the team is bought into Miller’s ‘team play,’ so it’s great that Arizona has a deep bench. Given the ongoing NCAA, Arizona Athletics, and FBI investigations, it may be awhile before any decisions come down, so for now, we are just being positive and hoping we will have a season to remember this year, in a good way. And Alkins will come back a stronger warrior and even more of a savage on the court, because he will be dying to play and that will give him, even more, a reason to perform. SAVAGE LIFE BABY! Bear Down King Rawle!
