Arizona Football has huge Evening, Finally beats the Bruins

BOULDER, CO - OCTOBER 07: Quarterback Kahlil Tate
BOULDER, CO - OCTOBER 07: Quarterback Kahlil Tate

Week two of the Khalil Tate era, and the Arizona Football team does the unthinkable again, knocking off the favored UCLA Bruins.

It has been a long time coming for head coach Rich Rodriguez, as the Arizona Football team was finally able to knock off conference foe, the UCLA Bruins.

Saturday’s are for the boys, or at least apparently that’s the case for Arizona, as once again, the youngin’s are leading the way for the Cats. Against UCLA, the Wildcats used a team effort, but it was Khalil Tate and freshman defensive player, Kylan Wilborn who seemingly stood out the most!

More from Arizona Wildcats

As you may recall, Tate dazzled us in his replacement duty of the injured Brandon Dawkins last week in Boulder, CO. This week was more of the same as Tate once again led all Arizona rushers, making numerous plays that helped spur the Wildcats’ offense.

Picking up right where he left off, it only took about four plays into the game when the Wildcats would strike first, as Tate would take the ball up the left sideline for 45 yards, before crossing the goal line for a touchdown!

Arizona would continue to use a strong offensive and defensive effort in the first half, holding the potent Bruins’ offense to just 14 points. Despite the Bruins totaling 300 yards of offense in the first half, they would turn the ball over twice (both by Jace Whittaker), including a pick-six!

The Wildcats would lead 30-14 going into halftime, but as Arizona fans are all too familiar with, is UCLA’s ability to erase large deficits, already doing so against Texas A&M earlier this year.

UCLA would come ready to play in third quarter, as both teams would go back and forth. The Bruins were able to score two touchdowns, with two, successful two-point conversions, really cutting into Arizona’s lead, getting down to 10 points for a moment.

Fortunately for the Wildcats, Arizona was able to keep scoring, as Tate would arguably have the most impressive touchdown of the night, evading numerous tacklers, before darting up field untouched for a score.

Tate would finish the game nine of 13 passing, with 148 yards and a touchdown, he would also add another 230 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns!

However, it wasn’t just the Tate show! Arizona got big time production from Nick Wilson, as he looked like the Wilson of old, running for 135 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Tony Ellison would have two big-time catches in this one for 59 yards total, and Trevor Wood would get his first career touchdown.

As good as the offense was, the young defense deserves a ton of credit in this one! Arizona played one of the best offenses in all of college football, and held its own. Rosen finished 20 of 34 passing, with 219 yards and had zero touchdowns to go along with three interceptions. Rosen was also sacked five times, four coming from the freshman, Wilborn!

The Wildcats would ultimately cruise to a 47-30 drubbing of the Bruins, improving their record to 4-2 (2-1) on the season!

Certainly great to win, especially against UCLA, where victory against the Bruins has been quite elusive as of recent.

Listen to coach as he talks about his teams’ performance following their game versus UCLA.
