It’s Rivalry Week! Arizona Football takes on rival Arizona State University this Thanksgiving Weekend. What can the coaches do to win this game?

The Arizona Football team was handed a loss or the butts on Saturday, and there are a lot of opinions out there on what could have been done to pull out the win. So why not publish them?

“We made some uncharacteristic mistakes – yet we still had a chance there in the second half,” explained Rich Rodriguez on Monday, “We do need to have that certain intensity in all three phases – but defensively we just didn’t do a really good job, we lost gap integrity a whole bunch – they kind of controlled us from their offensive line standpoint.” He wants his players to be more patient, and he was frustrated that his team didn’t get things going in the second half.

Good news; Parker Zellers will be back! Rich Rod needs 300-pounders, he is contemplating bringing O-Line guys over to D-Line. Coach Rod thinks the coaches could have helped out Tate more and agrees that the WR’s dropped balls they don’t usually drop.

We asked fans this question:

If you were an Arizona Football coach what would you have done differently in the second half against Oregon?

Here are the answers (including mine):

Shereen Rayan (Site Expert ZZ) I would have called a few trick plays. I would have had Tate run to the outside, not up the middle every time. Sweep left instead of right? Maybe try playing Dawkins in the RB spot and fool the defense, oh so many options here (she said wringing her hands).

Those short passes were working well in the first half, go back to those plays for a while. And of course, more plays for the tight ends (I had too, someone make sure Rich Rod knows I said this).

Marsha Mosley  Shake it off and concentrate on the next game coming up. Watch and watch again to see where you made your mistakes & correct them in the next game. UofA RULES!

Art Eagar Didn’t particularly like play calling but need to beef up both D-line and O-line. Overall cats played ok, just need to clean up mistakes especially all those personal fouls. Penalties kill drives.

Frank Pancho Apodaca Playcalling was poor. I have no idea why are receivers especially in trips formation cannot run vrossing routes zigzagging. It’s a way to open up the receivers versus fly patterns all the time.

Brian Fee Change the play calling. Maybe even bring Dawkins in to throw another look at Oregon and then go back to Tate.

Danny Hougland Four wideouts and spread the offense to give Tate more space to do what he does best.

Antony Chavez Doesn’t matter,………Beat ASU,………!

Scott Schlittenhart In the 2nd half I didn’t see a lot of RPO where Tate kept it, not sure if he was a little banged up, but Oregon’s D was not respecting the fact that he was going to keep it.

Duane Avery We never second question Coach when they win, why try to do his job when they lose? Tate still a kid. And still an inexperienced kid. We had to know a game like this was soon to come along. Bear Down Arizona! Love the Cats, beat ASU!

Robert Sedor Get on the receivers to catch, all those dropped balls were ridiculous.

Eddy Lieberman Bring in [Brandon] Dawkins to shake it up.

Matthew Geiger Need to throw more downfield. Even if those 10+ yard attempts are occasionally dropped or picked (like we saw last night) we should keep at it. Doing so will prevent the opposing defense from stacking the box and hopefully open the running game. I thought we did a nice job of this during the second half of the Washington State game.

Travis Burns Tate twisted his knee on the first drive of the 2nd half. You could tell he was limited and never wanted to run on any of the zone reads. The offense became very one dimensional, and it’s not meant for a drop passer, especially with our small WRs. Oregon just wore the defense down, and that’s just going to happen with us, unfortunately.

We’re just undersized playing a lot of freshmen. Shake it off and move on. Beat ASCC, finish 8-4 and let’s hope it results in a Sun or Holiday Bowl appearance.

Benjamin Johnson, I wouldn’t have punted on four and three on the Oregon 42 yard line, that’s for damn sure, that basically killed all of our momenta, it was a terrible call to make! We played man defense for the first half against Washington State and basically shut them down, that was the first and last time, I’ve ever seen Arizona play Man Defense.

Melanie Turner Black For those players who got the taunting penalties and other stupid ones, I would have set their rear ends on the bench. Totally uncalled for.

Julianne Sawyer Have one of the quarterbacks’ drop kick instead of the punters who seemed to be totally useless. We never had a chance with Oregon starting field position at midfield.

Carolyn Dunlap I would have let [Khalil] Tate throw that pigskin we all know he can run. This game the Ducks were ready for him. If I were coaching that game I would have gone for the air attack. Then run the ball with my RB and Tate for 1st downs. But it was a good game we have the duel in the desert coming up than a bowl game #BearDown
