Arizona Basketball: Commit Brandon Williams scores season-high 37 points
Arizona Basketball commit Brandon Williams spent his junior high school season recovering from knee surgery, he has started his senior season off with a bang!
Brandon Williams, Crespi Boys Basketball senior, signed Arizona Basketball scholarship papers about a month ago, and was about to start his senior season. We couldn’t wait to see him play unrestricted minutes back on the basketball court. Well, B-Will is back and better than ever!
In the West Valley Tournament held on Thanksgiving at Calabasas High School, Williams scored 23 points in the final game. B-Will was named the tournament MVP. What makes this even more impressive is that he earned this MVP award while playing limited minutes. He was on a minute restriction coming back from recovery from injury and only allowed to play 8-10 minutes a game.
Prior to Williams starting his season, Zona Zealots caught up with the future Wildcat during the summer at the Drew League in Compton. In case you missed this great interview, no worries, here it is for your enjoyment:
The time had finally come. I had planned to go to a few of Brandon’s games this season to catch him in action. It worked out that I could go on Friday night, so I headed north on the 405 freeway from Los Angeles to Mission Hills to catch the Crespi High School Basketball team take on Bishop Alemany at home. The students were not yet back in school but it was a pretty packed house, half filled with Crespi fans.

Before the game, the most beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was sung and everyone roared in approval. The DJ was also spectacular and performed at the level of a college, WNBA or G-League game complete with dance-offs and old-school/new-school music to sing too at breaks. But enough about that ambiance, what I went for was to see this future Wildcat play ball.
Williams didn’t disappoint, he was in full command of the court.
You need a player to hit their free throws? Rely on Williams.
Need a player to hide a basketball and fake their opponent only to end up with a layup for two points? No problem, you got Williams.
Need someone to slam home the ball to get the team going? Williams again.
Inbound play? Split the defenders? Break some ankles? Slam Dunks? Draw fouls? Yeah, send in Williams.
I saw Brandon Williams on full display wiping the floor with one of the top teams in his division. Crespi was up by 12-20 points for most of the game, they ended up winning by 13, 87-74 over Alemany.
But the game was supposed to be close; the spread was roughly three points in Crespi’s favor, but they dominated Alemany. Williams ended the night scoring a season-high 37 points adding three rebounds, four assists, and an exciting four steals. Williams wingman, Taj Regans (senior) sunk a number of three’s himself along with some exciting plays.
Here are the highlights from the game along with a short interview at the end:
