No. 1 Gregg Marshall

Finally, at No. 1 is someone who has the best coaching track record of any of the candidates mentioned so far. Gregg Marshall has lead Wichita State into being prominent nationally, having gone to a final four one year and then the following year lead the Shockers to an undefeated regular season (35-0).

Marshall is similar to coach Miller, for the fact that his teams are always great on the defensive side of the ball because it’s the one area he preaches the most. With a 480-180 record overall, he is a proven winner and someone that the Arizona Wildcat fan base would embrace easily. A big question, if his name came up, would be what are the chances he actually takes it?

Marshall has been rumored and approached about other big-time jobs before, but ultimately ended up staying at Wichita State. Another question surrounding him would be with the Yahoo report that came out a few weeks ago. Fred Vanvleet, a former point guard of his at Wichita State, was named in it for receiving money.

Barring any trouble with the NCAA, Marshall is the first name that should come to the mind of AD Dave Heeke and President Robert Robbins, as Miller’s replacement, if we get to that point.
