Kobi Simmons – Memphis Grizzlies
Everyone counted out Kobi Simmons in making it to the NBA. Boy did he prove all those doubters wrong! After only just one season as a Wildcat, Simmons decided to declare himself eligible for the 2017-18 NBA Season. Even though he took part in the NBA Draft Combine, Simmons went undrafted. Just when you thought it was all over, it wasn’t!
He was given a chance in the NBA Summer League and took advantage of it. Simmons ability to dish the ball and create his own offense at the point guard position earned himself a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Now remember as a Wildcat Simmons didn’t even at play the point guard position, he played more of a shooting guard. That’s even more remarkable to switch positions like that from college to the NBA. Bravo, Simmons, Bravo!
Simmons started in all 26 games he played with the Memphis Grizzlies G League affiliate the Memphis Hustle. He averaged 15.1 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game and 3.9 assists per game. He shot 43.6% from the field and 36.1% from three.
For the Grizzlies, Simmons played in 32 games and started in 12 of them. He averaged 6.1 points per game, 1.1 rebounds per game and 2.1 assists per game. Towards the end of the season, Simmons had a career-high 20 points and seven assists in a 130-117 win over the Detroit Pistons.
