Arizona Softball looks to bring home another national championship to Tucson.

The grass has been watered, the dirt has been raked, the bases are firmly planted in the ground, and both the home plate and the rubber on the pitcher’s mound have been painted white. Soon, the lights will shine down, and the players will take the field as they await the famous words of “Play Ball” from the umpire.

Yes, it’s that time of year again when dreams of becoming a National Champion in softball can soon be a reality for a ninth time. The last time the Cats won the Softball World Series was in 2007.

More from Arizona Wildcats

Arizona Wildcats Softball, ranked No. 14, will be hosting a regional in Tucson from May 18th to the 20th. The Wildcats will have some stiff competition as St. Francis, Mississippi State and North Dakota State who will make their way down to southern Arizona.

For the Wildcats to make it out their region, they will have to rely on quality pitching and timely hitting. They will turn to Taylor McQuillin to be their ace as they look to navigate this region.

The Wildcats will also look to Alyssa Denham to be their anchor on the back-end of the rotation. If these two pitchers are dealing, there will be no stopping there WIldcats from escaping this Tucson Regional.

The Cats pitching needs to be tight and accompanied by some timely hits with runners in scoring position to put some crooked number up on the board. The Wildcats have relied on the bats of Alyssa Palomino and Jessie Harper in these kinds of situations.

Alyssa has been a hitting machine for the Wildcats this year posting a batting average of .382 and driving in 40 RBI’s. Not too far behind her is Jessie Harper with her .337 batting average and 50 RBI’s. If these two can stay hot at the plate, opposing pitchers will have their hands full.
