Once again tied, the Arizona Wildcat’s women’s golf team showed that the grass must be greener on the red and blue side, just sayin’! The Wildcats showcased its talent big time during the Pac-12 Championship. Thanks in large part to the help of junior Haley Moore who finished third place individually, the team overall finished in third place, while the Sun Devils finished in 5th place. Adding another point on the board, retaking the lead at 9-8!
May 5-6 & 12-13, 2018 – Men’s Track and Field Pac-12 Championship
During the Men’s Track and Field Pac-12 Championship, the Arizona Wildcats put together some elite performances to secure the 10th point in the series. They would go on to finish 4th overall in the Pac-12 Championship with 91 points, while the Sun Devils finished in 10th place with 31.5 points. Wildcat freshman Jordan Geist is the main reason why. He won both the shot put and discus throw titles! Also, seven other Wildcats advanced to the finals in their respective events.
May 13 & 17-19, 2018 – Wildcat Baseball
You can’t make this stuff up! The way this 2017-18 Territorial Cup Series ended was incredible, as the winner of this series would secure the Territorial Cup Series for their school.
Arizona would go on to win the first game in Tempe by a 6-2, final. Now in Tucson for a three game series, the Wildcats would win Thursday’s opening game by a 6-4 final. Game two in Tucson would go to the Devils, as ASU won 10-5.
All of this setting up for an epic fourth and final game of the season series, where the Wildcats would have to win in order to win the Cup outright – you can’t be serious! Wait, it gets better.
The Sun Devils took a 7-2 lead in the fourth inning, but then the Wildcats made their comeback. Nick Quintana homered in the fourth, followed by Ryan Haug double in the sixth to bring the Wildcats within one 7-6. The Sun Devils would end up putting a couple more runs in the 7th, but once again the Wildcats came right back and scored two of their own to tie it up 9-9.
After a clutch strikeout by Zach Stone with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth, the Wildcats would find themselves in a late night extra innings battle. That would set-up Freshman Donta Williams to be the hero, hitting the game winner in walk-off fashion with a single to bring home Quintana for the victory. UofA, UofA! The Wildcats secure the final point of the series and win the cup 11-10!
