Arizona Basketball may benefit from possible 20-game Pac-12 Conference hybrid schedule.

More from Arizona Wildcats

As fans of college basketball, and especially Arizona Basketball fans, it is all but natural to crave the so-called “Big Game.” The game that separates the pretenders from contenders. For the past few years, fans of Pac-12 teams might have missed out on those big games due to the way the schedule is currently constructed.

Arizona fans can recall this year when the team didn’t travel to UCLA or USC or get the chance to host Washington at the McKale Center. As the PAC-12 was playing out last year, it is easy to say that each one of these games could have headliners as the conference race was close the entire season. West coach Arizona fans usually are treated to two games in Los Angeles where they can help sell out the seldom-sold-old arena’s and over-cheer the hometown teams fans.

With this being said, the PAC-12 is now considering a schedule change that would eliminate missing out on playing teams from year to year. Currently, the Cats would still play six other PAC-12 foes in a round-robin style. The other two round robin games against similarly rated teams would be added so some teams are not played against just once.

So what does this mean for Arizona basketball fans? It would mean that Arizona would have played another game against USC who finished second in the Pac-12 when it was all said and done. This extra game could have proven to be pivotal as the Trojans did not make the tournament last year.

With on the flip side of the coin, there are some negatives that come out of this “Hybrid” schedule change the PAC-12 is considering making. In that teams such as Washington State last year would have never gotten a second shot at taking down Arizona.

Remember this big game? WE NEED MORE!

Under this hybrid schedule, it would put a priority of pinning the top teams in the PAC-12 against each other. Thus giving the fans of the PAC-12 more must-watch games throughout the college basketball season.

As fans of Arizona, we will always love our games against Tempe Normal otherwise known as “ASU”. The idea of playing against the other top teams in the PAC-12 conference more than once makes the hair on the back of neck stand straight up. It gives Arizona more chances to prove not only to their Pac-12 foes but the National media that they are a powerhouse to be reckoned with.
