Rawle Alkins would be an excellent fit for Luke Walton’s Lakers

Man Rawle Alkins looks fantastic in Purple and Gold! I know all you UofA/Suns fans love him in purple and orange, but not this humongous Lakers fan.

Rawle Alkins shows up at the Lakers practice facility and is greeted by “Bear Down” from fellow Wildcats on the Lakers coaching staff. Miles Simon and Luke Walton want to pose for a picture with King Rawle. It was like coming home to roost for the Brooklyn Native who has been living the savage life in Los Angeles. Heck, he has mastered the freeways in and around Los Angeles already. He has hung with some of the most famous musicians (DJ Khaled, Chris Brown and Rotimi to name a few) and has been photographed by famous NBA photographers.

He fits right into the LA scene. Let’s talk fit with the Lakers.

There’s a ton of talk about whether or not LeBron James is coming to the Lakers. But it probably won’t matter either way when it comes to the Lakers 25th and 47th draft picks. I don’t see Bron Bron coming to the Lakers until they can get themselves in the playoffs.

If there is one thing James has learned is that the team he chooses next will need to be a stacked team to beat the Warriors. James has to win more championships to add to his legacy, and even if you bring him and two superstars to the Lakers, there is no guarantee there would be chemistry on the team to win a championship. In my opinion, he is not ready to be a veteran sitting on the bench.

First and foremost, Laker’s experts like Eric Pincus feel the Lakers want to or need to get rid of Luol Deng’s huge contract and to do that they will need to trade away young players. But who?

Lonzo Ball needs a few more years before anyone knows if he can play and Magic has invested his career Ball. Kyle Kuzma? No, he is off the trade list, fans and coaches love Kuz way too much. Brandon Ingram lands in the same bucket, with coaches hoping he becomes more vocal. But I predict neither Zo nor Ingram will become more vocal. Julius Randle’s name comes up as trade bait, but the fans love him.

So let’s insert Rawle into the mix.

I say the Lakers should keep Isaiah Thomas who is a vocal leader. He’s another Pac-12 guy from Washington who hit the game-winning shot against the Wildcats to win the Pac-10 Tournament in 2011. He has been rumored to be the No. 2 free-agent guard on the market, and he has already shown he can direct traffic on the court and command respect. He is also very close to Kobe Bryant; he takes his advise. But he and LeBron cannot exist together so that it may be one or the other.

The Lakers need more glue guys, more versatile two-way players who can change the game around. A player who can get the fans out of their seats with a fantastic dunk. They traded away Larry Nance Jr., so they need more fireworks or “Showtime” and King Rawle is Showtime.

The Lakers have shooters, but they need someone who can mix it up and throw off the opponents, someone to provide a spark when needed as Alex Caruso does. They need more defense. That’s why I feel Alkins is an excellent fit for the Lakers. Plus he is already friends with Zo and others.

Alkins has been busy! Here are the teams he has visited so far: The Lakers (25th and 47th picks), the Sacramento Kings (2nd and 36th picks), the Utah Jazz (21st and 52nd pics), the Minnesota Timberwolves  (20th and 48th picks), the Phoenix Suns (1st, 16th, 31st, 59th picks), the Atlanta Hawks (3rd, 19th, 30th, and 33rd picks), the Golden State Warriors (28th pick), and various teams at the Impact pre-draft workout in Vegas.

Rawle’s draft stock is rising by the day. Adam Zagoria Tweeted the following, “Two teams picking between 19-31 have called back for a second workout with Arizona’s @Iam_RawleAlkins who just had a strong workout with the Warriors, per source.” In addition, USA Today’s Jason Jordan Tweeted, “Hearing more and more from sources that Rawle Alkins (@Iam_RawleAlkins) is ascending up in the draft.”

We can only imagine how this now King Rawle signature dunk went down at today’s workout and how fun was it to hang out with the Legend Magic Johnson.

Chemistry is key, and these former Wildcats coaches have been watching Alkins all season, and he is one of them! He will feel at home with his former Wildcats and who need and want coachable players. There is already a profound respect for all around. Alkins could also help when the Lakers rival Phoenix Suns come along with former teammate Deandre Ayton because he knows his game.

Here is the Lakers interview with Alkins. You can hear the famous Lakers Reporter Mike Trudell asking most of the questions. Alkins feels he can play well with the Lakers who he feels are “great players” and that he is one of those guys who can play well on the NBA level.
