This weekend is a big one for Arizona Football as the Wildcats host a three-star defensive back for their opening season game versus BYU!

The hustle and bustle of college football is officially back, and with the start of Arizona Football, the recruiting efforts must continue to go on! That’s why in addition to the start of the 2018 season, the Wildcats will also play host this weekend to a prominent recruit.

Meet Jaxen Turner, the 6-foot-2-inch 175-pound defensive back from Rancho Verde High School (Moreno Valley, CA). Rated a three-star in the class of 2019, Turner will finally make his first official visit.

It was announced via social media that Turner would be in town this weekend, and it’s a great opportunity for the Wildcats to gain a lot of recruiting momentum. As it stands, Turner is down to just five schools, with the Wildcats in the mix.

Also being considered are; Cal, Arizona State, Oregon State and Utah!

A two-way athlete at Rancho Verde High School, Turner is also a pretty good basketball player too! Nonetheless, he is a great athlete with great size and strength as well.

This past season with the Mustangs, Turner played essentially everywhere, even logging stats at receiver. In addition to the 90 tackles (47 solo), six interceptions and six pass deflections, Turner had seven receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown according to Maxpreps.

So far for 2018, he has an even bigger role. The senior athlete is two of three passing the football with 39 yards and a touchdown. He also has five carries for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he already has eight tackles (four solo) with a pass deflection through just two games.

In my opinion, Turner is one of the big-time targets left for Arizona that is in play. He’s a versatile athlete that likely projects best at the next level as a safety.

Turner has great size and length, and certainly possesses the ability to add more size. He plays very well in coverage, and does a great job at keeping the play in front of him.

From his tape, you can see he has good speed, where he is able to drop well in coverage, and provide great range in his coverage. He’s fluid, shows a great burst in his transition from backpedal to opening his hips and running, and can also come up a leave a nice pop on the offensive player.

He’s tough, physical and smooth, and his highlights definitely showcase that!
