Finally some good news this weekend for Arizona Athletics, as the Arizona Soccer team caps off a successful weekend with back-to-back wins.

After a disastrous start to the 2018 season, the Arizona Soccer team has rebounded nicely since, now winners of four-straight matches.

As you may recall, the Wildcats lost 1-0 to Albany on opening weekend, but has recovered in a big way. First it Arizona was beating UC Irvine, followed by Houston Baptist last weekend, but the Wildcats would have an even bigger test this weekend.

Taking part in a series of matches against Southeast Missouri State and New Hampshire hosted in Tempe, AZ, Arizona would need great focus and effort.

They took to the pitch on Friday, ready to face-off with the Redhawks and came out of the gates strong. Arizona would strike early in this one, when sophomore forward Jada Talley would put one past the Redhawks’ keeper to make it 1-0 just 10 minutes in.

Nearly seven minutes later, the Wildcats would strike again, this time when freshman Midfielder/Foward Emily Knous put one in the right corner to make it 2-0. Unfortunately, not much was doing for the rest of the half, as the Wildcats had a couple more attempts that were turned away.

The second half would be a much stronger performance, as the Wildcats would strike early. Just 55 minutes into the game, Arizona would extend their lead, this time from junior defender Samantha Falasco, corralling a corner kick and finding the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Just a few minutes later, it was Morgan McGarry’s turn, as the redshirt junior would drive down the field to give Arizona the 4-0 edge!

However, the scoring wouldn’t stop, as Arizona would add one more late goal, this time from Brooke Wilson as she too would find the back of the net, sealing Arizona’s 5-0 win!

Arizona would take to the pitch again on Sunday to close out the weekend, this time against a solid New Hampshire squad.

Not really the blowout like they had a few days ago, the Wildcats would put together another solid performance. Once again, it was Talley who got things going early, when the sophomore forward find the back corner to make it 1-0 just over four minutes in.

Over 20 minutes later, the Wildcats would strike again, this time from Knous as she put a beautiful ball in the net, on an unbalanced shot to make it 2-0!

From then on, the Wildcats would essentially cruise, despite staying aggressive throughout. Arizona would finish the game with 20 shots, but connecting on just those two.

Senior goalkeeper Lainey Burdett also deserves a ton of crediting, picking up another win, and helping secure the Wildcats’ fourth shutout this season!

With the 2-0 win, the Wildcats improve to 4-1 on the season and return to Tucson to take on Boise State followed by Baylor next weekend!
