Arizona Wildcats
Bibby of course played with the Wildcats from 1996-98 totaling just over 1,000 points and 370 assists in his two seasons in Tucson.
Formerly a Phoenix area product, Bibby came to Tucson with plenty of hype, and was one of the best freshmen basketball players in the country in that 1996-97 championship season.
Following his illustrious collegiate career, Bibby would be drafted No. 2 overall in the 1998 to the then Vancouver Grizzlies, going behind now NBA bust Michael Olowokandi.
From 1998-2012, Bibby spent his 15 seasons in a few different destinations, most notably play for the Sacramento Kings from 2001-08, helping lead them to a Western Conference Finals appearance in the 2001-02 season.
Following his stint with the Kings, Bibby would then play for the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat and finally the New York Knicks.
Now retired, Bibby has since returned to his high school Alma mater, Shadow Mountain in Phoenix, AZ, where he is the head coach for the varsity basketball program.
Nowadays Bibby can still be seen coaching high school games, or heading to the gym which we’ve all become familiar with…
As for Simon, he was instrumental during the 1997 NCAA Tournament. A fantastic college player, Simon totaled over 1,600 career points, 414 assists and 432 rebounds. Unfortunately, he did not have much of an NBA career, before eventually getting into coaching.
As you may recall, Simon served as an assistant on the Wildcats’ staff from 2005-08 under Lute Olson, and now is an assistant with the Luke Walton-led Los Angeles Lakers.
The two keep themselves very busy these days, but nonetheless, they make appearances whenever possible. This weekend will be no different from that, as fans will have the chance to meet these two in part with the grand opening to the Dick’s Sporting Good’s at the Tucson Mall.
At Zona Zealots, we encourage anyone looking for something to do this weekend, to go visit and meet these former Cats! Bear Down, Arizona!
