Arizona Football, after two weeks, its time for the fans to go back to the drawing board and support the team.

As Arizona fans, the hype going into the first season of the Kevin Sumlin era was soaring high. As fans, we set a very high standard for this team. We expected this team to hit the ground running and destroy every opponent that stood in their way. Yes, the slow start is shocking. What is even more shocking, is that Arizona Football fans don’t hold themselves to the same standards as they do their team.

Like most of us, social media is a go-to source to find the latest sporting news for our Arizona Wildcats. Social media can be a great place, it also can be a very dark place. And unfortunately for Arizona Football fans, some of us gave in and joined the very dark side of social media.

As fans, we expected these young student-athletes to perform at their best every Saturday. Some of these standards seem to be complete every pass, make every tackle, catch every ball or make the right coaching decision every time. If we are going to set the bar high for college athletes, shouldn’t we hold ourselves to those same high standards as a fan?

If those are the standards for the players then the fans need be to held accountable for their actions too.

Instead of bashing the players and coaches through social media outlets, how about we support them through their struggles and show that we are there for them?

Some fans were quick to play “Couch Coach” instead of trusting the process the Sumlin has in the place.  It even reached the extent of waving the white towel on the season two games in. How about we sell out Arizona Stadium for the game against Southern Utah this Saturday.

Just like the Arizona Football team this week, the fans need to regroup and gather themselves. As a fan base, if our actions through social media were reflected in wins and losses we would be 0-2 ourselves.

Do not let the passion and love for Arizona Athletics turn into bitterness and hate. Remember fans, negativity only breeds more negativity. There is no room in sports for belittling other athletes and coaches just because the outcome is not what we desired.

These student-athletes look to us for support and for motivation each Saturday. Let’s turn the tables this week and support our Arizona Wildcats football team in a positive manner. There are ten games left in the season, six of which are home games. There is still plenty of time to turn this season around but it won’t be possible without the support of the Arizona Wildcat fans! Go Wildcats and as always BEAR DOWN!
