Arizona Volleyball (10-1) dominates Friday’s action, delivering head coach Dave Rubio his 500th career win as a head coach.

On the heels of a tough loss that brought their eight-game winning streak to an end, Arizona Volleyball returned to action on Friday to face Tennesee-Martin and New Mexico State.

It’s a big weekend in McKale this week! Entering the day yesterday, head coach Dave Rubio was just two wins away from getting his 500th career win, with a great chance at accomplishing that this weekend!

The day started off with an early match-up with Tennessee-Martin, where the Wildcats would come out focused, dominating all three sets.

Arizona came out strong, winning the first set 25-19, the second set would be a bit more lopsided as the Wildcats dominated that set too, winning 25-14. The final set would be a bit closer, however.

The Skyhawks came out strong, taking a dominating 17-8 lead, however, the Wildcats would not go away, rallying from the large deficit to steal the third set and the overall match, by 29-27 final.

Sophomore outside hitter Paige Whipple led the way with 13 kills, and junior middle blocker Devyn Cross would add 12 of her own! Senior setter Julia Patterson would have 25 assists for the match!

Now a win away from 500, the second match of the day would be all about revenge. Just days ago, the Wildcats picked up their first loss of the season against a formidable opponent in New Mexico State.

This time, the Aggies would have the work cut out for them. From the start, it was all business. Arizona took control of the first match, winning 25-18. The second set would be a bit more of a battle, as the Wildcats would rally from behind to win 26-24.

Hoping to sweep in all three sets, the Wildcats would put together another tremendous performance. Arizona trailed early but rallied quickly to control the set, ultimately securing the match victory by a 25-17 final!

Outside hitters Kendra Dahlke and Whipple would lead the way with 15 and 11 kills respectively, and Patterson would add with 35 assists!

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 10-1 (0-0) on the year, delivering head coach Dave Rubio his 500th career victory!

Arizona returns to action on Saturday when they face UC Davis to close out their non-conference slate.

The Wildcats will begin Pac-12 play Thursday when they take on rival ASU inside McKale Center.
