Arizona Basketball names Chase Jeter and Justin Coleman as Captains
By David Rosen
Sean Miller and the Arizona Basketball just named its captains for the upcoming season, with veterans Chase Jeter and Justin Coleman getting the nod.
Embracing significant change heading into 2018-19, the Arizona Basketball is in need new leadership among the many new faces this season. Following the annual media day, it seems they have found it!
Captain (Cap-tain) /ˈkaptən/- a noun that means the person in command, to be in charge of, control, manage, etc. There are various forms of captain(s), whether its in reference to a ship, the military service, the new, upcoming Marvel movie, or even on a sports team. Whatever the setting, they all share the same characteristics: leadership and experience. Both Chase Jeter and Justin Coleman seem to demonstrate these traits, and will be Arizona’s leaders for the 2018-19 season.

They were both chosen by their peers, which says a lot about each of them. It demonstrates a sign of respect and understanding of who they are as “true leaders” of the team.
Each bring valuable experience having both played in powerhouse conferences, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Beyond their experience, they also provide that leadership every team needs, especially on a young team.
After sitting out last season as a redshirt, Jeter will be counted on as the go-to big-man for the Wildcats. Due to the lack of size Arizona brings, it will be essential for Jeter to provide consistency throughout the season.
While he saw limited action in his two seasons at Duke, Jeter was going up against quality talent during practice and sitting on the sideline taking in all the action. During that time, he gained a lot of valuable insight and experience in what it takes to compete at a high level.
Finally with the chance to prove himself, the redshirt junior has a great opportunity in front of himself to showcase his talent!
Then we also have Coleman, a senior grad transfer who played two years at Alabama and then one year at Samford, before deciding to come to Tucson. The fiery point guard will add depth to the Wildcats’ back court in 2018-19!
Similar in size to Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Coleman will primarily be used at the point guard position, and gives Sean Miller a potential, three-guard line-up. While at Samford, he started in 27 out of 32 games, averaging 13.5 points and 6.6 assists per game.
Besides basketball, both of these guys like to have fun and it was very apparent during Media Day. Jeter among others were asked their video game of choice, perhaps not surprising he likes Fortnite and Call of Duty. Watch the video below to see why:
As we get that much closer to the start of the season, both of these players will look to step into the role of captain and truly represent Arizona Basketball! Bear Down, Arizona!
