Former Wildcat Allonzo Trier debuts with the New York Knicks
By Jordan Cuda
In other NBA action, former Wildcat Allonzo Trier shows off his scoring ability in his first pre-season game with the New York Knicks!
It is never easy when life does not go according to plan, and it shows the true character of a person during those times of adversity. This couldn’t be any truer for former Wildcat shooting guard, Allonzo Trier.
During his time at the University of Arizona, Trier had to deal with many challenging situations both on and off the court. Everything from injuries, to failed drug test(s), to coming up short of bringing a national championship back to Tucson, to now going un-drafted. Regardless, he faced it all.

Even with all these hurdles, it still didn’t change that Trier was incredibly successful during his time as a Wildcat.
Coming out of Arizona, Trier had the pedigree of a person who deserved to be taken in the NBA Draft. Unfortunately, there was a different plan for Trier, who was anticipating his name being called on NBA Draft night, but didn’t hear it.
Fortunately for him, this gave him the opportunity to team up with the New York Knicks, which in the long run might work out for the best.
Being an un-drafted free agent, Trier essentially could pick any team that would probably give him the best opportunity for success. The Knicks certainly fit here, as they are in desperate need of some help when it comes to scoring the basketball.
Well, if Monday night was any indication, Trier might be the solution they have been locking for. The former Wildcat showed flashes brilliance, even channeling his retro self, being able to drive to the hoop with ease and knock down jumpers.
Look now further than this fancy dribbling from Trier, as he was able to cash in on this nice layup against the Washington Wizards.
While it is only pre-season, Trier put up a pretty nice stat line at the end of the night, scoring 13 points on 3-7 shooting from the field. He connected on one of his two shots from beyond the arc and was a perfect, 6-6 from the free-throw line.
As for Trier, it looks like he picked up right where he left off at the University of Arizona. He is a guy who knows how to score the basketball in any given situation. While the road to the NBA may have been a bit unorthodox and turbulent at times, Trier is finally starting to reap the benefits of all his hard work.
From the bight lights of the McKale Center to the spot light and stage of the Madison Square Garden, we knew that Trier wwould thrive in this type of environment and will continue to embrace every opportunity that is presented to him. From all of us at ZonaZealots, we wish Zo the best moving forward and as always, BearDown!
