Defense:

Colin Schooler continues to impress. Schooler has been named a Quarter-Finalist for the Lott Impact Trophy awarded to the best character and performance for a player on the defense. The winner will be announced November 15th and awarded at the banquet on Dec. 9 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.

Schooler ranks No. 2 in the Pac-12 in total tackles with 48, two sacks and two interceptions. Only one other defensive player has two interceptions and that is Utah’s Chase Hansen who has made 42 total tackles. Schooler ranks No. 2 in total combined tackles with 81, he is one behind Cal’s Jordan Kunaszyk who has 82 tackles on the season thus far.

Pj Johnson may not rank in the top 10 in tackles, but the tackles and pressure he has put on his opponents is impressive and has kept the Cats in the game. Coach Sumlin pointed out what PJ’s performance has meant to the team:

Josh Brown played in just two games in 2017. In those two games, he racked up two tackles as a freshman. This season, Brown has appeared in six games. In those six games, JB has racked up 23 total tackles (15 solo, 2.5 average per game) and one sack. Again, what’s important is that his tackles and that sack came at key times in games. Because of Brown’s play, the offense was stopped on third down at times and the ball changed possession to the Cats.

Against UCLA, Brown consistently took on the role of a disruptor, making his presence known. Brown is a Long Beach Poly Grad out of California playing against guys he played against in high school. He will continue to build his college career as his confidence grows.

We are looking forward to pointing out and celebrating more great performances on the Arizona Football team throughout the season. Rhett Rodriguez and Khalil Tate deserve some kudos for working so closely together as a quarterback team and supporting each other. These two hate to lose more than fans, believe me. Please tell us who you feel has stood out to you, and let’s celebrate them.
