In still one of the most shocking results in the 2018 NBA Draft, former Wildcat Allonzo Trier went un-drafted, but is proving ‘experts’ wrong.

Draft night came and went, but the former Wildcat and McDonald’s All-American didn’t hear his name called. Instead, Allonzo Trier used that as motivation to prove everyone wrong.

He would have a difficult road ahead of him, but if anyone was best suited for overcoming adversity, it was Trier.

As you may recall, Trier had to overcome an injury in 2015-16, his freshman season, then his sophomore year, the dynamic scorer missed nearly half the season due to an ongoing saga with “substance abuse”, testing positive to a banned substance.

Then last year, he again missed time due to a test conducted by the NCAA, but luckily was able to come back quickly. Regardless, every time he was faced with difficulty, he overcame it and showed great resiliency.

Already nine games into his NBA career with the New York Knicks, the explosive wing from Arizona is turning plenty of heads and showing scouts they got it wrong.

The un-drafted rookie is already averaging over 10 points per game, to go along with 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He’s fourth on the team in scoring, despite not having started a game yet this season.

Trier took the court again last night, helping guide the Knicks to their third win on year, also scoring a career high of 23 points in just 24 minutes played. The rookie also went a remarkable eight of ten from the field.

While it’s hard to say he will continue to perform moving forward, but if last night, and this season so far is any indication, I think the Knicks got a huge steal!

Trier is only going to continue to get better, and getting opportunities with an organization in need of talent is only a good thing for the un-drafted rookie!

Check out his highlights from last night in their win over the Dallas Mavericks:
