Despite it being the off-season, things are staying busy as former Wildcat Rob Refsnyder returns to the desert, after signing with Arizona.

As the saying goes, there is no place like home. Being home brings a sense of comfort in the familiarity of surroundings around you as well as familiar familiar faces. As for former Wildcat Rob Refsnyder, he’s hoping for all those things, including new opportunities.

Well, while during the busy off-season, news broke on Friday that Refsnyder had been signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks to a minor league deal and could get that chance!

Originally a native of Southern California, Refsnyder made his first journey to the desert, committing to the Wildcats to continue his baseball career in 2009.

During his time with the Wildcats, Rob put together a tremendous career, including a miraculous junior season. In that 2012 season, he batted .364 with eight home runs and 66 RBI’s.

These type of stats lead him to be a part of the Pac-12 first team along with multiple other awards. By the time his college career was over, Rob had a mantle full of trophies.

He was even a critical piece of the team that won the 2012 College Baseball World Series. His MVP performance helped propel the Wildcats in winning their fourth title.

Now after years of bouncing around with the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays’ organization, he is now looking to bring that same Arizona magic to the Diamondbacks.

In his career in the Major Leagues, Rob is batting .218 with four home runs and 22 RBI’s in 166 games played. The most playing time Rob has seen was with the Yankees in 2016, where he got 152 At-Bats while hitting to a tune of .250 and 12 RBI’s.

Arizona might be the perfect fit for him as they look to retool their roster moving forward, and hope to win their first World Series since 2001.

There will likely be ample opportunity to play all around the field, which would give him a chance to find his groove both at the plate and in the field.
