In their return to action, the Arizona Women’s Basketball team (4-1) dominates against South Carolina State on Friday evening.

It’s all about progress! While it’s still early in the year, we are learning quite a bit about what sort of team we have on our hands with Arizona Women’s Basketball.

This should sound like a broken record by now, but last year was an absolute disaster. The Wildcats finished with six wins, but are looking to put that all in the past and improve this year.

Currently, they have been putting together a solid season, now winners of four games. However, we must note that the competition hasn’t been particularly great either.

Regardless, the Cats keep winning and have been doing it in dominating fashion as well! On Friday evening, more of that continued as the Wildcats took on South Carolina State.

From the tip, it looked like it was going to be a long night for the Bulldogs. Arizona came out ready and focused, looking to build off their last two, dominating wins over Seattle and Portland.

The Wildcats jumped out hot start, opening the game with a 13-2 run! However, SCSU would respond, getting things a bit closer just before the end of the quarter. Luckily, the Cats would still be up 17-10 at the break.

The second quarter would be a much more dominant one for Arizona. Using stifling defense and an effective offense, Arizona would go on another big-time run, this time outscoring the Bulldogs 17 to 4, to extend their lead to 34-17 just before halftime.

Picking up right where they left off, the second half would essentially be no different for Arizona. The Wildcats got to work again, just absolutely wearing down the visiting Bulldogs.

Leading just 36-26 with about six minutes to go in the third quarter, Arizona used another big run to extend their lead. The Wildcats would finish the quarter on a 16-3 run, giving them a 52-29 lead.

Hoping to put this one away for good, the Wildcats would put together their best quarter of the game yet! Arizona would hold SCSU to just three points for the entire fourth quarter, meanwhile putting up 21 points, en route to the dominating, 73-32 victory!

The 32 points given up was tied for the fewest points allowed in one game in school history!

Freshman Cate Reese led the way, scoring 19 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, posting her second double-double of the season!

Sophomore sensation Aari McDonald added with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists on her own! Redshirt junior forward Dominique McBryde added with 10 points as well.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 4-1 on the year and will return to action on Tuesday, when they take on Incarnate Wood inside McKale Center.

Also, it’s worth noting, that beyond the special performance by the Wildcats, one former Wildcat great also had a special evening, as she was honored, and forever immortalized inside McKale. During the game, Ifunanya ‘Ify’ Ibekwe was added to the Wildcat Ring of Honor!
