Another day, another commitment for Arizona Football, as the Wildcats pick up their fourth commitment of 2019 since last Saturday.

Silver linings are tough to find from the 2018 season, but perhaps one of the very few advantages of not making a bowl game for Arizona Football, is that Kevin Sumlin and staff now being able to direct their free time towards recruiting.

It’s evident where Arizona fell short in 2018, they just don’t have enough depth or talent at some crucial positions. Luckily, there is something being done about it.

Since losing to ASU in heartbreaking fashion, Sumlin and staff are out hitting the recruiting trail hard. So just how hard has the staff worked?

Well, to recap, the Wildcats have gained four more commitments for 2019, with the fourth, most recent commitment coming on Tuesday evening. Junior college defensive lineman Myles Tapusoa decided to shut things down.

The 6-foot-3-inch 325-pound defensive tackle had recently de-committed from Houston, instead flipping his commitment to Arizona. The standout tackle from Eastern Arizona picked the Wildcats over offers from; Houston, New Mexico, Oregon State and Idaho among others.

In recent days, he also joins the list of verbal commitments from; Sylvain Yondjouen, Josh Donovan and Trevon Mason.

As he becomes the 18th commitment in the class of 2019, interestingly enough, he also is the fourth junior college player to commit to Arizona this year. That is easily the most for the Wildcats since 2015, when they took signed five, Junior College players.

Rated as the 76th overall junior college player for 2019, Tapusoa is a big one (and no I’m not referencing his size).

Beyond this season, we don’t fully know how or what the Wildcats will look like along the defensive line next season. We can hope for the return of PJ Johnson, outside of that, I’d have to think there is plenty of opportunity.

If Johnson comes back, that’s obviously huge, but also, Arizona will need to get Justin Belknap healthy. Plus, they will need to continue to develop the likes of, Finton Connolly, JB Brown and Jalen Harris, as well as get increased production/ roles from guys like; Kylan Wilborn, MyKing Johnson, Jalen Cochran and Nahe Sulunga among others.

The talent and increased size seems to be there, now let’s hope for increased production. As for Myles, will have a chance to add that!

For one, he is big, so he is very much a space eater. He gets off the ball pretty well, clogs running lanes, and maintains good eye discipline in the backfield.

Myles sheds blocks well, has great pursuit and will definitely be a nice addition to this defensive line next season! Just take a look at his film…

At Zona Zealots, we’re excited about the most recent commits and can’t wait to see what they can do with the Wildcats! We know Myles will be another, welcomed addition! Bear Down, Arizona!
