Still making a name for himself at the professional level, former Wildcat Scooby Wright will play in the newly created Alliance of American Football league.

It’s good to still find work in the game of football, and for former Wildcat Scooby Wright, that’s exactly what he’s doing!

A collegiate star, the former standout linebacker at the University of Arizona hasn’t quite found the success he had hoped for at the professional level.

His three seasons in Tucson came with many accolades and praises, and for the Wildcats, Wright played in 30 games. During that time, he amassed 270 tackles (159 solo) with 43.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, an interception, five forced fumbles, a Bronco Nagurski Trophy, the Lombardi Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award.

Following a storied collegiate career, Wright got himself selected 250th overall (7th round) in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.

Although Wright’s stint in Cleveland didn’t last long, he eventually landed in Phoenix, to play with the Arizona Cardinals. Mostly playing for their practice squad during the 2016-17 seasons, Wright appeared in 13 games, totaling just seven tackles.

His stint with the Cardinals has since come to an end, but for Wright, his football career did not.

On Tuesday, it was announced that the former Wildcat will sign with the Arizona Hotshots, a Phoenix-based professional team that was recently created along with the Alliance of American Football league (AAF).

The league was founded by filmmaker Charlie Ebersol and former Indianapolis Colts vice chairman, Bill Polian. The Hotshots will be just one of eight professional teams in the AAF league

Despite being unknown still, the opportunity is a big one for Wright. The teams will compete in a 10 game season, with the home games hosted at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ for the Hotshots.

The inaugural season will begin just one week following the 2019 NFL Super Bowl.

While Wright prepares to take on his next challenge, coincidentally, he will also join former Wildcat teammates Jacob Alsadek and Lene Maiava in the process by joining the Hotshots.

The first game is slated for February 10, when Arizona will take on the Salt Lake City Stallions at Sun Devil Stadium.
